I'm getting a _Driver_power_state_failure in sleep mode in my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14. I bought it refurbished so I don't know if this problem was happening before. I've had the computer for a couple weeks now and noticed it in the last couple days or so. It happens intermittently.

The BSOD is caused by Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II (realtek).
First try to update the driver, from Realtek
Then follow Power Plan Settings - Change. At Point 5.C, change the Wireless Adapter Settings > Power Saving Mode. Change it to "Low Power Saving" apply and OK.
Let us know the results.

after a couple of days, the Blue screen problem - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE came back.
As suggested, I had updated the driver from Realtek and changed the power plan setting on the Wireless Adapter Setting to Low Power Saving Mode (for both battery and plugged in).
The latest file is attached.
Can you tell if the crash from 090413-14055-01.dmp and 090413-17440-01.dmp were DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILUREs as well?
Because on 0906, I installed this program TouchFreeze 1.1.0 (for sensitive keypads) and I'm wondering if the DRIVER_POWER_STATE crashes is related to that?
Before 0904, on 0901, I had installed Convert MP4 to MP3 1.5 and Media Player Codec Pack 4.2.8, so it could be one of these programs giving the POWER STATE FAILURE if 0904xxx.dmp files are POWER-STATE_FAILURE related.
I believe the 090813-21652-01.dmp was from after I had installed the new Realtek driver, I had an error msg saying it wasn't properly installed, so I did a SYSTEM RESTORE, and there was a blue screen, before Windows finally worked again.

I had installed these programs Convert MP4 to MP3 1.5 and Media Player Codec Pack 4.2.8 on 0904 (and not 0901 as previously stated.)
Dont get tensed. A Driver Power State Failure apparently has nothing to do with a software or codec installation. Basically this BSOD is ACPI related.
The BSOD is almost as same as the earlier one, just one thing is different there, that is the network adapter driver is the latest here.
Uninstall SoftEarth VPN client.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
- Click on the Start button
- Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
- Select the “Startup” tab.
- Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
- Apply > OK
- Accept then restart.
Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs, not with your installed Kaspersky AV.
Now, down the lid for a few times and see, does it BSOD? Let us know.
But I'm in China. I need my VPN Client! Well, I'll try it without uninstalling it first, and see if I still have the problem.
Did you mean to run BOTH Anti-rootkit utility AND Windows Defender Offline or just one of them is fine?

Sorry, I didn't have Internet access for the last few days so I couldn't post.
But good news is that I haven't had BSOD during that time.
I did the following:
- Ran the anti-rootkit – no threats found.
- Windows Defender Offline – it actually found a Trojan! Trojan:Win32/Orsa,!rts
- Removed from Startup under msconfig everything except for Kaspersky and Touchfreeze
- Didn't remove or updated my SoftEther VPN client (I have the latest) but no BSOD!

A couple questions for you:
1. I assume most of the programs in the Startup are automatic update checkers? Do you know if that's the case for these ones as well?
- Apple Push – APSDaemon.exe
- iTunes – TunesHelper.exe
- Quicktime – QTTask.exe -atboottime
- Adobe Reader – AdobeArm.exe
I mean, am I missing out on anything by not having them in my Startup?
2. One more question – do you look at the Vista forum as well? I had 2 different BSOD on my Dell laptop running Vista and posted on there.

The reply on there was that one was a problem with my wireless adapter and the other with Kaspersky. But when I clicked on those on the links they were not that helpful or I wasn't sure what to do. Could you expand what I should do? I like the way you answer with detailed steps to follow.

If you are not putting anything there in startup, nothing you are missing. But the antivirus should be there, to continue the protection.
Looking at VF now, though I am not regular there, not a vista user actually :)
