BSOD when putting Dell Latitude 6430u into sleep or hibernate

    Hi,
I have a brand new Dell Latitude 6430u running windows 7 professional 64 bit. About 1/3 of the time that the computer goes into sleep or hibernate, it doesn't "wake up" and I get a restart of windows with an error message that looks something like this.

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
    Locale ID: 1033
    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 9f
    BCP1: 0000000000000003
    BCP2: FFFFFA8006880060
    BCP3: FFFFF80000B9C3D8
    BCP4: FFFFFA80181DB010
    OS Version: 6_1_7601
    Service Pack: 1_0
    Product: 256_1

I have updated many of the drivers (video, audio, touchpad) and the bios from dell's web site.
Using the program BlueScreenView the driver listed again and again is ntoskrnl.exe.
I have run PC Doctor to thoroughly check the hardware especially the memory and hard drive and all comes out clean.
    I am attaching the minidumps.
It is really frustrating to have this problem with a new machine so any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Thanks and 2 questions

Thank you very much. I updated the intel drivers and so far have had no bsod's.
I really like avast, do you think I can delay uninstalling and see if the intel drivers were all it took?
Also, it is a new machine and to the best of my knowledge I never overclocked. Could it be that it was just in turbo mode?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for the feedback, I would advise removing Avast as the drivers were
    showing to be faulting.

Perhaps you could try downloading the most recent version here

Uninstall your existing version using the removal tool and installing the
newest version, see if that sorts the driver.

If not you may have to remove completely.

Yes, Turbo mode would explain, or it may be an OEM overclock, if so then that is fine.

    cheers

    Happened Again

    Hi,
It just happened again, bsod while going into sleep.
I had uninstalled and then re-installed the latest avast, and I still got the BSOD error message.
So I uninstalled the Avast and installed MSE as you recommended.
I also checked a preinstalled program, pc doctor, which has a record of the bsod's called system history, and it claims many times that my PCI bus drivers are at fault. It also mentions NDIS system drivers and WAN miniport driver once each.
Isn't there any Dell utility that automatically searches all of the drivers on your machine and looks for the latest upgrades?
If not, how do I upgrade the PCI drivers (nad NDIS and WAN).
    Thanks again.

For what it is worth, I get the same DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD when I attempt to put this Dell E6430 laptop to sleep, hibernate or just turn it off. Sometimes it just hangs and eventually I'll see the BSOD. It has been doing this since I got it in late 2012. I've cooked the CPU more than once by putting the laptop into the case when it really was not turned off. This is a company laptop and the IT department's solution is to re-image it. I've been putting that off until they come up with a build that does not blue screen. Others at my office are seeing this too (but not everyone). We have 1000s of these E64xx series laptops - I'm not impressed with them nor Dell's support.

    A word of warning:
Turn the display brightness up at least one notch above the minimum setting before installing the video drivers from Intel's website (which will be newer than the video drivers offer on Dell's website). When I first got this E6430, the display brightness settings would turn the display all the way off. Then a few video driver updates later, the minimum setting was just dim, but not off. I installed the latest video drivers from Intel's website (in a quest to solve a desktop refresh problem) and the display went blank during the installation.....and it stayed blank after the hard drive activity light stopped. This does not give one a good feeling. Turning the display brightness up one notch turned on the screen again.

I normally stick with getting drivers from support.dell.com - but I've been so desperate to solve a video annoyance that I've applied nearly every update Intel has offered. The annoyance that I see is - sometimes windows like MS Paint will exit, but most of the window still shows on the desktop. Of course, I cannot get it to do it now so that I can post a screenshot.

You can try the network adapter drivers offered from Dell's website. Just enter your service code (or let it detect it) - then select your OS (if needed) and get the newest file for each area.

I hope that you have better luck that I've had.

    Hi,
Thanks for the help. Here are the new minidump files.
    So frustrating!!
I am also having internet connection problems now (maybe related to some of the driver updates).
The Intel web site automatic update works great, scans your system and tells you which drivers need to be updated. The dell site just lists all drivers that may be relevant, even those that you may have updated already so you really have no idea what to update.
My new computer (which flies when it works) is going from bad to worse.
Thank you so much for all of the help!!
    Thanks,
    Joe

See if Dell has an update.

    Problem Device:

Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - No driver installed

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...?DwnldID=21129

Also you have a total of 3 Anti-virus programs on your computer.

Remove Mcafee and Trend Micro Security Agent.

Then see how the system performs.

    Update

    Thanks for bearing with me.
I updated the Intel USB 3 driver.
I tracked down the tye of fingerprint reader that I have, Authentec aes2810, and I downloaded the latest driver from their website.
So far (3 hours later) so good.
In terms of the antivirus, I deleted the trend micro (came for free with the computer and I thought that I never activated it). The mcafee is an internet filter program so it shouldn't be involved in anti virus.
I was nervous about the Microsoft antivirus so I also downloaded malabytes and I will run scans with that as well once in a while. Good idea?
Once again thank you for the help.
