BSOD: What to do for bad update

Running Windows 7 64 and the other day I was forced to do a critical update. Rebooted, computer lagged and immediately BSOD. After rebooting in safe mode I ran an update a few times and it appeared to be corrected. Now when I boot into Windows my computer will completely lock up and reboot. When I go to safe mode my computer will be fine for a few minutes and then BSOD. How can I correct the issue if I dont have a restore point? I am currently running a memtest.

Specs: Raptor HDD for OS and 4 1TB WDs in RAID 1, 16gb RAM, octo core.

I would try going to the manufacturer's site, if possible, and downloading the previous update. If the system isn't stable enough to do that, boot from a rescue CD,USB or some other means to install the old driver.

In future I recommend image backup my Macrium,Easus or another good free program.

do you have a windows recovery disk? or your installation disk?

you state that you dont have system restore? if you have completed a critical update then you will have a system restor point.

yes I have the installation disk. What is the best option to use to not loose what is on my C drive? Should I disconnect my other drives?

now after I go into recovery it tells me its making system repairs. After completing it asks if I want to inform Microsoft I click finish. The screen disappears with the background and then my computer shuts down. I reboot and it asks me if I want to start normally or complete repair. What steps should I take now?

its not completing the repair. I launch startup repair and it tells me attempting repairs, I click finish and then the computer shutsdown and I am prompted again. Could the hard drive be bad?

I suppose you could run CHKDSK from command prompt.

    are you fully backed up?

i'm thinking that by the time you have finished looking at the fix... maybe a fresh reinstall of windows 7?

    how did your memtest go?
