Windows 7 x64 Pro bluescreen after waking from sleep

Hey all,

I usually leave my computer in sleep mode, and wake it up when I need it. I almost never shut it off or restart, except when installing updates.

Recently, I switched my computer on from sleep and the display remained black, although the monitor informed me there was an input signal. After disconnecting and reconnecting the video cable from the monitor to the computer, and failing to receive any response from the computer when I used my input devices, I used the rest button to restart the machine.

Immediately after booting into Windows I got the notice that Windows had recovered from an unexpected error, and that it was a BSOD.

I've already downloaded and run the SF Diagnostic Tool, and I'm attaching the resulting zipped file to this post.

Additional information:

In my power settings, I have my display turn off settings set to 20 minutes. I have sleep set to Never, as I do it manually. I also have the high performance plan selected.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and the rest of my specs are in the attached file.

But in AE1200 Support | Wireless-N USB Adapter, it seems that there is no feasible update to it.

So, for the time being, you install the available one, and disable USB Selective Suspend.

If still the issue continues to occur, better you try another WiFi adapter with an up to date driver.

You're absolutely right about the Linksys USB adapter: there doesn't seem to be any driver update for it. I had checked for one a few months ago, and didn't find a new one then either. Based on past experience, I haven't always had the best of luck with USB network adapters. I had another, older one which also caused BSOD even with the latest driver installed. I have replaced it with this one, but it looks like, even though this is a much newer adapter, the problems persist.

I have no problem turning off USB Selective Suspend, but I have a question about how that will affect the rest of my USB devices attached while the machine is asleep. I did read that it might prevent all machines from being allowed to access the computer during sleep. Is that right?

Selective Suspend will not affect the other USB devices. It will resist the wake up/sleep time power transition, so there will be a less chance for a driver power state failure.

For a desktop PC, the sleep/hibernate mechanism is not needed at all; as those PCs dont run on battery power, and so no real need to conserve the battery. Disabling sleep will almost nullify the chance of a power state failure.

Ok great! Thanks a lot for all your help Arc, and for the explanation! I've switched the USB selective suspend off, so we'll see how that goes. Seeing as how I've owned this adapter for a couple of months, and this is the first time I have had an issue with it, I'm confident that changing the setting will fix it.

Worse comes to worst, I can always replace it easily enough.
