Please help: BSOD stop 124, locale 2057

Hi everyone,

I've recently bought an overclocked bundle from a company that assures me that everything went through vigourous testing before it was sent, yet I keep getting blue screens when playing games. These can happen anywhere between an hour to 4 hours of gaming. the timing is random and goes across all games.

I've updated all drivers, used the memOK provided on the motherboard and run short stress tests on the hardware using a utilty from the asus website. I've also checked the Hard drives and used the disc utility checks. All of these came back fine. I've not tried a memtest yet or anything like HotCPU.

It might be worth noting that I couldn't do a fresh install of windows as I don't have a disc and I'm not sure whether it'll let me use my product key again. I did, however, remove all updates and windows features and reinstalled these. I also found some of the gigabyte files still in the computer, but didn't feel confident enough on regedit to remove these.

I'm relatively new to this so any help would be much appreciated

A stop 0x124 means some sort of hardware error, and the BSOD happened during playing Borderlands2.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator
Also let us know the wattage of your PSU.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of gaming and other usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.
If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the CPU.

Let us know the results.

Hey, thanks for the reply, I've just been going through the tests mentioned. GPU was fine, I had it running for 90 minutes then did the 60 second test and there were not artifacts etc.

I'm going to post the results after I finish all the tests mentioned.

I was running Prime95 for around an hour and my computer restarted. Is this significant? I'm going to run the test again now

If the computer restarts at its own, it is significant.

If you can reproduce those restarts, better you concentrate on the heat and the PSU next.

The temperature seems to be fine, both the gpu and cpu peak at 72 degreea during the stress tests but everything stays around 45-55 degrees during gaming. I have a 860W Corsair, so I should have more than enough power?

Sorry, I'm still quite new to this. Could this be due to not reinstalling windows when upgrading my motherboard, CPU and PSU?

May be. An old installation with a new machine may not work perfectly. To make it work properly, what is needed to do is Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer. Otherwise a clean install is needed.
