BSOD, initially during iPhone5 sync, now during startup

Hi -

Started getting BSODs whenever I tried to sync an iPhone 5 or 5s to iTunes. Would make it through some of the transfer, then kick to BSOD.

Had to repair the OS to get it to boot a few times, including running bootrec.exe /FixMbr and
bootrec.exe /FixBoot

Errors that were reported on the blue screen generally were either:

IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL

or

CLOCK INTERRUPT WAS NOT RECEIVED ON A SECONDARY PROCESSOR

After few to many BSODs, ran memtest (eight cycles) and the appropriate drive diagnostic tools. No errors in either case.

Reinstalled the video drivers. No change.

Had some time today, so tried to run some diagnostics/conduct a repair. Went into safe mode and deleted all the USB drivers. Had to manually install the USB3 Host Driver from Asus. No change.

Ran Driver Verifier using instructions from Microsoft's website. Now I can't even get through a complete boot before getting a screen freeze - not even a BSOD. Having just looked at Sevenforums page on Driver Verifier, I now wish I hadn't done that.

So, in any event, I would tremendously appreciate any assistance you can provide. It's having a severe impact on my ability to get work done.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any sort of disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

Attached are .zip files of (a) the minidump from a BSOD when I tried to sync my iPhone5, and (b) a rerun of the diagnostic tool grab all.

This is stop 0x124, which is hardware environment oriented issue.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Also, there is a possible BIOS update, Version 0307 in ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download M4A88T-V EVO/USB3. Better you apply that update, as it fixes stop 0x124's very often.

Thanks very much - I can give you answers to half of your questions now, will run the other half.

PSU: I have a Antec 650w power supply. The eXtreme calculator puts my recommended wattage at 331, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Temp: Average operating temp at 75 Celsius. Speccy snapshot attached.

Memory: Ran eight cycles of Memtest86+ when the BSODs started occurring. No issues.

Will check the BIOS version, stress test the CPU, and stress test the video card now.

It is really hot; but it would be better if you supplied the screenshot of the summery tab. as suggested.

Anyway, dismantle the PC. Clean everything inside. Clean the air vents and fan grills so that it can blow the hot air out easily and efficiently.

While re-seating, apply new thermal paste to the CPU.



Do it, before doing any other suggested tests. It is highly important, and a MUST at once.

When done, let us see another screenshot of the speccy summery tab; just to check the heat situation after doing these all.

First off, merry Christmas!

I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO on the way from Amazon along with some new thermal paste. In the meantime, I vacuumed out the case. Apparently it's been entirely too long since I did that, as the temp dropped 20 degrees. See attached summary tab.

I apparently knocked something when I was cleaning the case out, because I couldn't get the computer to post after I cleaned it. Reseated the memory and most of the other connections on the mobo, boots fine now.

Should I wait until I get the new heat sink installed to start running other tests, or go ahead now since the temp is down?

Temps may be the sole reason for a stop 0x124; but not always.

In this case, temp is detected as an issue, that is worked out as within tolerance now. Now it is the time to wait and observe. If the issue bounces back, we have to search for the other possible reasons.

So keep us informed about what is going on

So, I feel like a complete dope, but it appears that cleaning the processor/mobo has resolved the issue. I've synced the phones with no problems, updated the BIOS (which caused it to crash repeatedly before cleaning), and it's running rock steady.

BSOD when sync iphone on Windows 7
Hey guys i cant sync my iPhone with itunes on Windows 7. I have looked at other threads and tried what they recommend first, and updated all drivers and software. It get a quarter of the way after the backup and BSOD everytime. I have attached the dump files, any help is much appreciated. Cheers
