BSOD Crash problem (so far only one cause)

Hi everyone i'm new to this forum. Recently i had a BSOD come into my life lol. I do some music productions from time to time & the particular DAW that i use is Ableton Live. In the preference folder there is an audio section & in the hardware setup there is a sample rate which i always leave at 44,100 hz. My sound card allows me to select up to 96,000 hz and as a test as soon as i clicked on it in my ableton live settings the PC came up with a BSOD and i can also access a control panel for my sound card outside my DAW and whenever i set it to 96,000 hz as a test it doesn't do anything. I have checked my hard disk for errors but so far everything is running smoothly except for when i open my DAW and try to set the sample rate to a much higher number. I have tried this test in the past without any blue screens, I have also uninstalled & re-installed my DAW but it has not changed anything. I am not having any other problems with my RAM, Hard Disk, Video Card & even the sound card isn't dropping out or causing any pops or clicks. I have never encountered a problem like this before & it only seems to happen whenever i set my sound card sample rate to 96,000 hz, it's really strange that nothing else on my PC is having any issues except whenever i click to enter this one sample rate. I don't know much about the BSOD & correct me if i'm wrong does it mean whenever windows cannot read a file or tries to read a file that's either missing or it has been deleted & therefore it causes a blue screen to occur? I'm not too sure but if there is anyone out there that can help me with this problem it would be much appreciated. I have also attached a file with the information from the SF Diagnostic Tool.

Hello and welcome to SF MMZ82 .

As you said the issue appears to be originating from your sound card, the bugchecks (apart from one)
are 0x50 Page Fault in Nonpaged Area which are due to ka6usb.sys.

You now have version Komplete Audio 6 Driver 3.0.3;
Code:
lmvm ka6usb
Browse full module list
start end module name
fffff880`08e1d000 fffff880`08e36000 ka6usb T (no symbols)
    Loaded symbol image file: ka6usb.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\ka6usb.sys
    Image name: ka6usb.sys
Browse all global symbols functions data
    Timestamp: Wed Feb 22 14:15:03 2012

I would like you to update the driver to version 3.1.0 which contrary to the OEM webpage
is dated 18/12/2012 10:46 and not 03.04.2013.
But you will have to verify you are meeting the prerequisites first.

Quote:

What's This?

The package installs the Windows driver (version 3.1.0) for KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 for Windows 7 and Windows 8.
  • Important Note: Requires Firmware version Fw45 or later
  • Important Note: USB 3.0 support depends on the respective USB 3.0 chipset and chipset driver. Check the Native Instruments Download website for firmware updates and contact your computer- or chipset vendor in case of remaining problems.
If you are you can download 3.1.0 HERE.

Now the odd one of the bunch is a failing nVidia driver, I'll leave it for now
we'll deal with it if the issue becomes more persistent.

Let us know the results!

Hi YoYo155 yes that appears to be the problem, after i posted this thread last night i also had some issues outside my DAW which as a result caused my audio to stutter & slow down. I don't have any clicks or breaks in the audio apart from that stuttering although i will keep an eye on it & monitor it closely. I did uninstall the previous driver i had for my KA6 & install the one that you added so thanks for that. Also you did mention towards the end about the nVidia driver. I have also had some issues in the past with this driver not being able to update it etc, it is only about 4-5 months old & that is about the only issue i have had but apart from that it seems that the blue screen was caused by that KA6 sound card. I have followed your steps so far & will let you know how i go with time. Thanks a lot for your help

I followed the steps that you asked me to but i seem to be getting the same error again i tried to go into my DAW to test whether or not the BSOD would come up & it happened again I have been using the same softtware & hardware for the past 6 months and have had no glitches until now. Very strange :|

Please post a new instance of the SFDT.
Can you think of something that had changed before the issue started,
both in terms of hardware and software?

No worries i will def post a new instance of the SFDT. Over the past few days i haven't had any blue screens & have been testing the sound card just like before when i was getting those BSOD's. After the driver you posted in your reply i did experience the same effects whenever i would go into my DAW to select the 96,000 hz sample rate as a test like the driver i had installed previously, I decided i would download an even earlier version of the driver from the NI website & so far it has been working fine, i haven't had any BSOD issues just yet. I did try installing the driver from the original instillation disc without success as well. Originally i was having an issue with one particular instrument, whenever i would raise the pitch & because the instrument itself has a lot of reverb (ehco) it would cause the hard disk overload indicator to flash orange which made me think it was a hard disk issue. I did test every other instrument in my library & did various other tests on my hard disk which all came up negative to any problems whatsoever. So then because that instrument is the only one out of the entire library that i have come across in all the years of working on my particular DAW i didn't think it was too much of a problem when i could easily do without it. I also decided to do some other tests with my sound card 's audio control panel settings & came across the process buffer which allows me to select between 32 samples & 1024 samples & as long as i can remember since i have had this audio card i have been using 1024 samples which is the highest possible process buffer for the card. I then decided to select each one with the instrument playing in the background whilst looking at my hard disk overload indicator & it wasn't until i reached 512 samples in the process buffer was i able to get no response at all from the overload indicator. So for now i will work with that & because the driver that i installed seems to be holding up without any blue screens showing up i can safely say for now that things are back to normal, although i don't really know if this incident would have happened earlier if i did decide to play around more with that instrument and test all of it's capabilities & since i haven't being playing around with the sample rates for a long time or the process buffer on my audio control panel i just have to go along with the notion that this was always the case except i never came across a particular sample that wasn't able to be processed correctly through the audio card via the CPU or even the hard disk which hasn't been an issue for me as of yet. I'll keep you updated and post a new instance of that SFDT report thingy. Cheers for the help YoYo155!

Thanks for the added information !

The new bugcheck is the same as the ones before it, except with the updated driver.
Before we call it a hardware limitation / driver fault I want to test whether some other driver is involved
in causing the crash indirectly.

Start by updating the Realtek High Definition Audio:
Code:
lmvm RTKVHD64
Browse full module list
start end module name
fffff880`08896000 fffff880`08b80a00 RTKVHD64 (deferred)

Please follow this detailed quote and roll-back the driver to a known stable release
this time not installing the Audio drivers

  • Boot normally now. Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:

After the above is done try to induce a crash again, if it does disconnect the keyboard and any other
audio related hardware and see how that goes.

Post back with the results.

Okay so i followed all the instructions with the DDU & the uninstall of the nVidia drivers. I also tried to update the realtek high definition audio through the device manager but it said that the driver is already updated. So i'm not sure whether or not that was the correct thing to do concerning the update for that. After i completed the instillation's i tried the exact same tests which i mentioned in my last reply but so far there hasn't been any changes, i'm still using the same settings with the audio card for the DAW i use, usually i leave it opened and use audio outside the program & whilst the audio is being used outside the DAW i get probably one fault with the audio where it starts to stutter where i proceed to disable the card in my sound settings & then enable it again & it works fine. So far it has only happened about 3 times since although while the audio outside lags & stutters, the audio in my DAW works perfectly fine. I'm still thinking there is something wrong with the audio somewhere, i cannot seem to pin point it & because i had to lower the buffer settings to 512 samples instead of leaving it at the 1024 samples which had been the setting for over 6 months without any problems i still think it's not normal that it's some how working under the 512 sample rate & not the 1024. I will add the logs from the DDU & another report of the SFDT, But so far there is no changes from the last post i made. Thanks again for the help Let me know again if the reports & logs show any problems i am interested to know the results, cheers!
