Way too old?

What about Compat Mode which just stopped working for no reason on this driver, after it had worked previously? Can some of the display settings on the Compat Mode utility be used?

I have these installed (exclude the x64 for the machine in question obviously).

Will 2010 catch me up with the prior versions?

Does Compat Mode depend upon C++?

Thanks Yo! You're a real pro. I learn a lot from our BSOD analysts who are the best in the world.

Greg my respected friend, it appears to be an ancient machine. Simply no necessary driver updates are available with Acer.

Attachment 301194

The drivers which are must to update are .....
  • Silicon Integrated Systems VGA: c:\windows\system32\drivers\sisgrp.sys (I doubt that they continue with windows 7)
  • Broadcom Wifi: c:\windows\system32\drivers\bcmwl6.sys (no updates are available with Broadcom too)
  • AC'97 Audio Codecs: c:\windows\system32\drivers\rtkvac.sys
I can find one only ...... the audio driver. Realtek

I guess a GPU and a Wifi card will do all the job.

Strange I've been using it all day and except for one time I came back to find the BSOD in OP, it has performed swimmingly with only the 1.5 gb RAM upgrade and all the old hardware/drivers.

I watched streaming video which was sharper and lagged less than a new HP 17" I have here.

It is a clunker but it's rock solid so if I can find away to be reasonably certain there won't be regular BSOD's I think the owners who were ready to pitch it will be happy with it.

Yes, a single BSOD may always be considered as only a glitch. Until an unless it is recurring, there is no real necessity to take that BSOD seriously.

Beyond using it all weekend and streaming movies is there any stress test I can run which would likely reproduce the BSOD if it's prone to happen again?

I have an equally old Dell Dimension here now I upgraded to 2gb RAM which is slow, but this one is fast with just 1.5 gb RAM.

I have a pile of laptops and desktops piled up on a table that neighbors and friends have brought by for me on my return to Florida. Have had to cut 7F time in half. But I'll have a pocketful of Red Lobster and Outback gift cards if I can get through them.
