Windows 7: Crash after reinstall Aspire 5003wlmi

Crash after reinstall Aspire 5003wlmi

Attachment 301147

BSOD after upgrading Aspire 5003wlmi from XP to Win7.

sysgrv.dll is the XP display driver. It would not run the SIS UniVGA3 XP display driver in Compat mode but could browse from Dev Mgr into its file to successfully install Display driver which ran for awhile with good res and Sleep. Can't use Standard VGA because of display jitters.

Others have been able to install and run the XP display driver in Compat mode but when I run confirmed installer in XP sp2 mode it gives this error every time: Attachment 301149
Is there a way to install sysgrv.dll in Compat Mode from Dev Mgr?

Also added 1 gb RAM matching manufacturer's specs and results on Corsair RAMfinder: Amazon.com : Corsair 1GB (1x1GB) DDR 333 MHz (PC 2700) Laptop Memory (VS1GSDS333) : Laptop Computer Internal Memory : Electronics

No further crashes after streaming full screen videos with high res which is suprisingly good for this old beater, not a single lag. But can it be trusted to give back to owner?

Well greg; im sorta kinda taking a shot in the dark here on this one; but from a few different places where I see pnp driver not found in the event log; apparently it looks to me as if windows 7 does not want to detect the proper drivers for some reason(plug n play drivers). In which case it seems like you may have to try and go to acer's site and have a look around for some drivers and see if ya can fix it doing that.

That is one really old driver. What happens if you clean it out and let Windows Update install its own certified driver?

Installer gave Standard VGA with no Sleep, wavy lines at any resolution. Updates has nothing newer.

Past solutions for this were installing in Compat Mode. I did a test install on this machine awhile back to a partition and it installed in XP 2 Compat Mode with no crashes.

Now it won't install in Compat mode without the pictured error. I can only browse into the XP driver file from Dev Mgr which pics it up and installs, but clearly caused the BSOD (which hasn't repeated).

I think you might be out of luck with that upgrade unfortunately Greg .

Usual causes: Insufficient disk space, Device driver, Video card, BIOS,

Faulty system service, 3rd party remote control, Memory
I can see that the bugcheck occurred while running WinSAT.exe (Windows System Assessment Tool),
can you recall which particular stage was it in (what was it testing)?

As Colin stated above the driver is very old and SiS hasn't released an updated version
to support the newer OS's later than XP.
Code:

You can try the modified version from 2010 and try running WinSAT again, although I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Thanks, Yo.

Streaming Youtube video at full screen highest resolution 1280 x 800 for a half hour with perfect picture and less lag than on my new HP laptop would not suffice as a stress test?

It would seem to be, but for some reason while I was overclocking my GPU it would bugcheck only
under WEI (I believe it invokes WinSAT) and not under any stress tests the same goes for my
CPU I would get a WHEA event logged when running the WEI test and not others.

I realize its not a benchmark but WEI was 3.5 with highest score for Display. Said it has new hardware detected which might be the SiS driver. After I run it again the score is 1 attributable to Gaming Graphics. But it didn't crash. Any other stress tests for this?

Can you please check which version is currently being used?

I am sure you don't need to be walked through as how to verify I'm simply posting
for possible future readers .

The way to verify it's date of creation rather then the date it was installed on the PC is to navigate
to C:\Windows\System32\drivers, right clicking the driver choosing Properties
and looking at the Date modified under the Details tab.

Note   Note
This is just an example using an nVidia driver.

About the 2nd screenshot, do you have (or have had at the time)
any external storage / flash drive connected?

Yes I had a Kingston flash stick plugged in at the time.

I think you want the SiS driver Details? Stand by.
