I honestly don't understand this relationship between the computer going into sleep mode and the internet being disconnected, but I haven't gotten a BSOD in awhile, so I don't even know if this is a BSOD problem anymore.
Just to recap, no more BSOD's and long shutdowns?
Were you generating any traffic or the connection was sitting idle?

As far as I know, no more long shutdowns and BSODs, and the connection was sitting idle when I put it in sleep mode.
However, the absence of BSODs and long shutdowns could be attributed to the fact that I stopped putting my computer in sleep mode, seeing that I just shut it down now instead of putting the computer in sleep mode every now and then. So whatever is causing this sleep mode problem could be the same thing that was causing the long shut downs and BSODs. Honestly, I wouldn't put it past my computer to have another BSOD, so the problem is still probably present, but I've just been avoiding it by not using the sleep mode function of the computer.

Other issues on my computer to note, if it helps any:
-Power light and sleep mode led light stopped working months ago non-simultaneously(Sleep mode light went first then the power light went out a couple months later) , but the sleep mode problem starting occurring a couple months after that, so I am not sure if those two things are related.
-Windows Action center has recognized issues with Real Player and my ATI Radeon Graphics Card.
Event Viewer has recognized 61 errors(noncritical) in the past 24 hours and 256 in the past 7 days.

Well avoiding sleep mode is not a very good test, please do try and use the PC the way
you want it to function. Test it try and induce a BSOD and report back either way.

As for the LED's going out how old is the case?
