Windows 7: Frequent flash and freeze

Frequent flash and freeze

I'm not sure if this is classified as a BSOD. An error report never comes on.
The screen flashes once then a few seconds later the system freezes and is unresponsive
to any mouse or keyboard commands including Ctrl-Alt-Del.
I have seen no set pattern as to when it occurs, sometimes it even happens while Windows is starting.

I've installed and ran IObit and Glary Utilities in an attempt to fix any registry problems that
may be responsible, but the freezes have only grown more frequent and I fear these programs may
have done more harm than good.

ADDED: Post recovery SF_Diagnostics info with dump files.

Well; one thing Ive heard from some of the more senior and more knowledgable members is not to use any of those utility programs unless its recommended by one of them as some of those utilities can cause more harm then good. GET RID OF the Iobit utilities. They may say they fix problems but ive learned first hand that they do not always fix problems and sometimes create even more issues. To me this sounds more like a possible hardware issue and or possible lack of enough ram issue than anything. IF you have not already done so; i would run a memory test using memtest86+ which is what the "guru" members on here reccomend for testing ram. It may take a few passes of testing for it to show anything if there is any errors.

Thank you for your response. I've suspected memory problems and have looked at memtest86+ before.
It's not uncommon for artifacts to be left over when I close a window, which is a known symptom of low memory. I haven't seen any warnings or event logs that would indicate memory problems though.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to use memtest86+ as it must be burned to a disc and my disc drive
is not functional.
I also hear a click sound (not very often) which I read may be an indication of the hard drive going out. All checks I've ran on it have come back clean.

I'm seriously considering just resetting my PC back to default and doing a clean install of windows
and my software.

A click sound coming from the hard drive is not a good sign. Even though tests may come back clean; the hard drive could still be on its way out little by little. I would download the hard drive diagnostics test(forget what it's called) and run that for a few passes to see of there are any bad sectors.

From Microsoft or is there one at this site?

I've checked it with Windows - C:/properties/tools/error-checking
and Speedfan S.M.A.R.T.

I restored my PC from an old restore point I had on an external drive. This turned out to be
an unwise ideal as it has wiped out my other restore points and is irreversible. A message came up
after reboot stating the recovery was unsuccessful.
I think I may have ended up with old and recent registry keys and files. For example a message
pops up that a .dll file is missing for Windows update and yet Windows update works fine.

The laptop still freezes, only it is different now, it's only the graphics that freeze. I can
still use the keyboard I just can't see anything. The screen also flashes every now and then
but the screen doesn't freeze up right after, like before.

I have updated Windows, Java, Adobe Software, and my drivers.

To anyone:
Please take a look at the info I have added to my first post (cp769_+DumpFiles...). And even if
you can't help, I would greatly appreciate a translation of the dump files. I am having a very difficult
time trying to get the symbols for the windows debugger.
