    BSOD playing LoL, Skyrim BCC 0x00000116


    Hey all, need some advice to which direction I should go from here.

    My laptop while playing games (thus far has only happened in LoL and Skyrim) will crash after about 1-2 hours of game play. The bug check code is 0x00000116 and Blue Screen Viewer says it was caused by this driver "dxgkrnl.sys". I believe that my video card is having issues but would just like to know if there's anything else I can verify before RMAing my system back to Clevo.

    Upon getting the BSOD and noticing the dxgkrnl.sys file Blue Screen viewer pointed to, I updated both my Direct X, and nVidia drivers. When I updated my nVidia driver I did a custom installation where I select the option to have the old driver completely removed before the new one installed. After that I played around with a couple video card stress tests (FurMark) to stress the card and make sure I wasn't having heating issues - at max stress my card was around the 98-99 degree Celsius mark. Tonight I'm going to run Memtest overnight and check out my RAM, but, I just don't want to overlook anything before sending it back.

    Hi mancowherd.

    A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. The noticeable probable causes are

    • Overclocking.
    • Overheating
    • Dust allocation inside the computer
    • Power supply issue
    • Malfunctioning display driver
    • Failing GPU.

    So first ou have to observe how it is running without overclocking any hardware viz. CPU, GPU and RAM. Set all them to default clock values.

    Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

    Open the computer and clean all the air vents and fan grills so that it can blow the air out efficiently.

    Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

    Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

    How long you ran furmark? Did it show any artifacts? Or did it crash during the stress test?

    Plus, at least as a test, install the NVIDIA DRIVERS 314.22WHQL only, as it is the most stable version of the display driver released lately.

    • Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features
      • 3D Vision Control Driver
      • 3D Vision Driver
      • Graphics Driver
      • HD Audio Driver
      • PhysX
      • nvidia Update

      (Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
    • Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
    • Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:


    Let us know the results.

    ** Switchable graphics environment has some inherent drawback that it sometimes fail during switching graphics from the onboard to the dedicated and vice-versa. That is tough to get rid of. But if all the tests yield clear results, the situation my be narrowed down to it.

    - No overclocking, everything is set to default values.
    - No dust allocation inside chassis, all vents are clear, all fans working well.
    - I ran FurMark for 15 minutes with no artifacting, lockups, crashes, or shutdown from heat (GPU at full stress was 99 degrees Celsius).
    - I don't know how to test my laptops power cord, I don't have a voltmeter, and this particular Clevo adapter has 4 prongs within the adapters end that plugs into the laptop. Specs are 19V 11.57A.
    - I ran Memtest overnight with no errors.
    - I uninstalled my current driver, and all other nVidia components, and used the GPU driver removal tool in safe mode, then installed 314.22 nVidia driver with your installation instructions.
    - I attached the screenshot from Speccy. This screenshot is after about an hour of gaming.

    Let's see if it crashes after messing with the drivers :)
