Not really BSOD, but computer boots to locked desktop every time

While my computer is NOT BSOD'ing, it does this: Cold start, system boots all the way to the desktop. If I bring mouse to lower bar, it displays the "busy" ring. The area down in the lower right will load about 7 of the programs running (normally closer to 16). Nothing is "clickable" anywhere on the desktop.

I then hit the Reset button on the computer. During reboot, the OS will note it shut down improperly, I pick "Continue normally" and when it gets to the desktop, everything loads normally and the machine is good.

I've done a msconfig bare startup and it comes up in the expected (nothing running) mode just fine. Reset it back to normal, and the problems are back.

I just can't figure out what's causing this, also, apologies if this is in the wrong place. Just seemed the closest.

    Matt...

Thank you for the link... did you provide that after reading the contents of the zip file I had attached?

I'm happy that someone read and thought about it, at any rate.
