Windows explorer has stopped working on 7 64 Ultimate

This started a few days prior to installing 7 64 ultimate last Tues. I has Vista 64 Ult. and started getting these messages sporadically at first but then more frequently. And still goes on w/ 7 64.

I don't have any viruses, did all those checks, no spywares, adwares, etc. Maintenance is performed on a daily basis.

Everything else runs great and my RAM usage is far less than my old Vista Ult. approx 1 Gb. less. This is the first time I've ever ran into this.

My Clunker Specs:

Hi, I'm having the exact same issue you're having. It's completely random! Sometimes it's when I try to uninstall an application or game, other times it will be when I right click on a folder to delete or rename it. I most recently had it happen when I clicked on a shortcut on my desktop to try and delete it.

I had this issue with Vista; but only recently. It must be something to do with a recent update.

I found a "fix" for this issue; however, it's on a fix if you have the registry key listed that they want you to disable; I didn't.

This is one of the fixes.

I used method #2 on this issue. Seems to be working much better.
Thx for the reply.

Neither Option 1 nor Option 2 worked...

I found this thread and tried both specified options under:
Windows 7: Fix Windows Installer Explorer Update Has Stopped Working

Under option 1, regedit shows that I only have the "default" - nothing else.

Under option 2, first it couldn't find gpedit.msc, and when I searched for it, it turned up four locations for it, none of which would execute. All I got was a window with the message MMC could not create the snapin.

So, now what do I do?

Thanks;

Just wait until Microsoft release update fix patch - it happen when I used Vista SP2 in June then same problems but in July or August the updated fix patch fixed the problems so Windows 7 will do the same so maybe this month or next month or even in 2010 - I have same problems as think its the Windows 7 itself with some bugs in dll files that need to fix the problem so have to wait until update it avail..

I don't know what happened but my problem just went away. I ran the registry fixer in ccleaner and now I no longer have the problem, kind of weird but it worked I guess.
