    atikmadag errors and BSOD

    Hi there.

Hope someone can help with this.

I have been having random BSOD. Any activity can start one. Event log shows atikmadag errors with CLIB out of range.

Video is ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2. I downloaded the newest drivers and installed them but that didn't help.

Attached to this is a mini dump file.

Thanks if someone could advise me. I didn't have these crashed with VISTA. They just happen in Windows 7.

Lots of porblems. First you are using 7600 which is the current build but there are drivers in it from 2007. Second, if you are overclocking you need toi stop NOW. the files that caused this involved HAL.dll and ntkrnl.exe. these are critical system files.

I suggest you run a system file checker by going to search>cmd>right click and run as admin> sfc scannow . Let us know the results. I suspect it will find errors and be unable to fix them

Ken, thank you for your prompt helpful reply.

When I ran sfc /scannow it complete with the message "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

As for over clocking. I wouldn't even know how. However this is a new gaming computer just three weeks old and maybe it was overclocked by the vendor. Would you please look at the computer specs at this link and see if you think it was over clocked? Newegg.com - Open Box: Acer Aspire Predator AG7710-U7792A Core i7 Extreme 965(3.20GHz) 12GB DDR3 1TB ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

If it is I don't know how to change it so would need some guidance.

As for some old files I had done a new complete install of Windows 7. Do you think it would help to reinstall it new again?

Thanks so much for your help.

The STOP 0x9C error message has been retired and replaced with the STOP 0x124 error message starting with Windows Vista.

Does the system have any roots in XP, or is it a multiboot system with XP (or an earlier OS) included? I saw the post about it being new, but had to ask - especially as the system is listed as "Open box". Also, since it's listed as "Open box", I'd wonder about the problems that the previous owner had. Can you return it for a refund?

A STOP 0x9C error is an error that is forwarded to Windows by your hardware. As such they're not real easy to decipher. But they're primarily due to hardware problems - either broken hardware or serious incompatibility issues.

Please run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if there's any obvious compatibility issues. It's free from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

There are some older drivers on the machine that may be interfering. Please update them as soon as you can. If you cannot update them, please uninstall the software and physically remove the devices from your computer. Don't update through the "Update drivers" option - instead visit the website of the device manufacturer to get the latest updates.:

    Hi there.

The system does not have any XP roots. Not dual booting and XP was never installed on it.

Vista Home Premium 64 had ran for three weeks without any crashes or BSOD before I installed Windows 7 so I'm not sure if it the problem would be hardware. But I could be wrong.

No I can't return it. Every thing looked new in the box when I unpacked it. I wish I knew too why it was returned.

I have run Windows Upgrade Advisor as you suggested and no issues were found. Said I should be able to install and run Windows 7 Premium or Ultimate.

Right now I am in the process of finding replacement drivers for the old ones you listed. Unfortunatly the

Do you think it would be helpful to do a clean Windows install and start over?

Thanks so much for your help.

A clean install would let you start out without any "baggage" - and would tell us if there's issues with just the Microsoft stuff running.

With a clean install of windows 7 I am still having random BSOD.

However since I got a new monitor there is no longer the atikmadag error in Windows Event Viewer.

Attached is the mini dump from my most recent crash.

Thanks if someone will look at it and advise me.
