Windows 7 RC build 7100
CPU problems

So, I have the 7 RC, build 7100, and whenever I try to do more than two things, or something that uses a lot of processing; my CPU skyrockets. Not only that, my wirless card stops getting a connection to the internet, but remains "connected" to the router. After this happens, every time I try to shut down, it takes about 10 minutes before it comes up with a BSOD saying "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE"

At first, I only used the upgrade feature, more or less assuming that it was the reason. I tried a clean install and the same thing happens.

I'll try to get the minidump up soon, as soon as I've vented a bit of frustration. Until then, any helpful information would be nice.

The computer I'm running 7 on is an HP with an AMD Phenom 9550 Q4 processor, and a nVidia GeoForce 9100 graphics card, 64-bit version. I don't know the motherboard, sorry.

Also, if this belongs in the driver section of the forums, I apoligize. I didn't know if it would be immedatitly that problem or not, so I thought I might as well ask the general discussion for now.

Going by your description of things, we should look for obtaining the latest driver for the wireless adapter or at least make sure it's already up to date.

I see you are not very sure about some of the hardware you're using. So we can do this.

Device manager, double click network adapters, double click the wireless device, details tab, change the dropdown box to hardware ids. Copy and paste to here what you find there.

Minidump would be nice too.

Windows 7 RC build 7100

I tried shutting it down again after another CPU spike, and found that even after about 20-25 minutes, it wouldn't shut down or BSoD. Hopefully that's just another problem off the list. I'll still try to get a minidump up tomorrow. It's late and I'd like to get some rest.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Get a copy of the freeware SIW and check your voltages. I'm not going to say you have a bad power supply, but I'm a bit suspicious of it. If you don't know what voltages to expect, report back what you get.

Windows 7 RC build 7100

Sorry about the late reply, I've been busy most of the day.

Anyway, I got the SIW freeware, and couldn't find the PSU stats under...well, anything. Sorry to ask a maybe dumb question, but where is it?

Also, got a minidump up from when I had the RC upgrade, and not a clean install. I can't turn off the read only lock on the folder. Here's the link

nvlddmkm.sys, usbaudio.sys both have problems.

What that means is go on over to and download the latest driver for your video card. Install.

Think of any USB audio devices you have, like USB audio interface, headset, anything that makes sound at all using USB.

Go visit the maker of that device's website and download latest driver. Install.

Visit your motherboard maker's site. Download any updated chipset drivers. Install.

Finally as last step, do a Windows Update.

After those steps, your machine most likely will be problem free.
