    Random BSOD, Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

    Hi everyone,

Only has this PC for a few months and i have been plagued with Random BSOD's or crashes, I have spent hours on google looking for a solution but i still have not managed fix it, so i really hope you guys can help.

I have been using Who Crashed and this is the most common error -

On Thu 10/04/2014 20:39:00 GMT your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\041014-20826-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (nvlddmkm+0x28364E)
    Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF88004A8864E, 0xFFFFF88006BCE560, 0x0)
    Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
    file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 334.89
    company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 334.89
Bug check description: This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 334.89 , NVIDIA Corporation).
    Google query: NVIDIA Corporation SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

    Thanks in advance.

Please create a restore point by following these instructions before changing any drivers.

    System Restore Point - Create

You are having issues with your graphics driver. Can you please roll back the driver to the latest stable release, the best version is 314.22 but it's not available for every graphics card.
If not then please roll back to versions in April 2013.

Follow these instructions on how to uninstall graphics driver and re-install them.

    NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

    Code:

nvlddmkm.sys is causing a page fault which is caused by a process (mainly drivers) when they try to access memory that has not been paged to physical memory.

    Post back the results.

    Hi,

I have followed your instructions and installed that driver, unfortunately it has not fixed the problem, this is the latest report from Who Crashed -

On Fri 11/04/2014 12:43:53 GMT your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\041114-22682-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (nvlddmkm+0x6C944)
    Bugcheck code: 0x1E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF8800494A944, 0x0, 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)
    Error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 314.22
    company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 314.22
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 314.22 , NVIDIA Corporation).

Can you follow these instructions on how to download and run Furmark.

Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

It will stress test your GPU and if it crashes at all when testing it is a strong indication it's faulty.

Ok, i have downloaded and used the software, following the instructions in the thread, ran it for about an hour, it seems to be staying at 99% but the highest temp it has reached is 81, and I've had no crashes or artifacts.

So i suppose that's both good and bad, What should i do from here?

Right, well that means your graphics card is stable.
We can try enabling Driver Verifier by following these instructions.
Make sure you DON'T enable any drivers that are categorized under Unknown, Macrovision and Microsoft Cooperation

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

I also recommend creating a restore point by following these instructions because there have been cases where your system becomes unstable which causes the system to crash on boot even in safe mode so this is a good option.

    System Restore Point - Create

If your system does crash on boot up make sure you try safe mode first.

OK, so its been roughly the 24 hours since starting the driver verifier and unfortunate there doesn't seem to be any difference, just the same BSOD's.

Also the screen has started occasionally flashing black, sometimes lasting a few seconds.

After googling the problem some more, someone suggested installing SP1, the BSOD's seem less frequent now but are still happening. any suggestion on what I should try next?
