Win7 SP1 frequent random restarts, going on for 2 weeks

Hello,

I'm not really sure what's happened. I'm running Win7 SP1 on my computer, with Sapphire HD 7870, Samsung 840 Pro 256GB HD, and some Kingston Hyper X Beast memory. I've had the rig working just fine for several years, but in the last three days, I've gotten random restarts with no idea how.

I haven't installed any software, except for the Microsoft updates: Security Essentials updates as well as Important Windows updates. Not sure that the restarts happened right after these installed, but that's the only software I can think of that went into the computer in the last three days.

I've attached my SF_Diagnostic_Tool zip file for reference for 11 Apr, but please check most recent one in the posts below.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Gerald

Right click the battery icon in the tray.. choose power options..chose advance settings for whatever is your active power plan.. then..change plan settings..select advance power settings....expand sleep..expand allow wake up timers..
and disable both 'plugged in', 'battery'

do this and see if it helps

Nooruddin76,

Thanks for your help. However, I don't have a battery icon in the tray. This is a desktop computer.

Is that what the data showed in the error files?

Thanks!

Gerald

Nooruddin76,

Thanks again for your help. However, my computer doesn't hibernate--hibernate is turned off. Did the data files from the diagnostic tool show that it was on?

The computer randomly goes through a soft-restart (no button push). I'm on the computer, the computer goes to a black screen, the bios pops up, and I'm brought back to the Windows login screen. When I login, everything that was opened: explorer, word docs, games, etc. are closed. Explorer says it was improperly shut down and that I can restore old browsing session.

Does this sound like a hibernation issue to you?

Thanks again,

Gerald

(BUMP) To Whom It May Concern:

I have a computer successfully running Win 7 64 for many years. However, in last two weeks, it has randomly rebooted at many times. Sometimes when I'm working in a word document, sometimes when I'm surfing the net using Explorer, sometimes when I'm playing video games. This is a recent event, and no new software or hardware has been added to the system in the time the reboots have taken place. The reboots are becoming more frequent and more random as time progresses. I have also stripped the computer down, cleaned the dust out and reseated all components. However, the reboots are continuing to happen.

Attached is the latest SF_Diagnosis_Tool file as of my 5 crashes today.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

So I just tested RAM with memtest and the computer restarted twice. First after about 11 minutes. Second after 5 minutes. I'm running a third test and it's going fine into the 17 min zone without restart. Since none of the tests showed memory block failures, could this be a hardware issue?

Still no one interested in analyzing the dump files for me?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

The latest test of MEMTEST86+ went about 1 hour and 50 min before the computer restarted again. The 1+ run showed no errors.

Thinking that the problem could be hardware related, took apart the computer again, reseated everything, and then noticed that the PSU (Seasonic x850) had its power regulator switch turned to "hybrid" instead of "normal". Switched it back and re-ran MEMTEST86+ for 14 hours. After 8 runs, showed no memory errors. Also, the computer running for 14 hours gives me a little hope that the random resets were due to the PSU being in hybrid (power/fan saving) mode. Perhaps the PSU got too hot with the fan off, and the power got rough enough to restart the computer.

Not sure this is solved. Can anyone check the dump files two posts up to check and see if there are no software-related issues that could be causing the reboots?

Thanks!

Just got my PSU back from Seasonic's RMA, and their testing showed that nothing was wrong with it. So far, the computer is running ok. I have kept the power switch on "normal" just in case and the computer seems to be running fine. I would appreciate it if someone could verify the dump files to see if there are no software glitches.

Thanks!
