Read the tutorial again and it will tell you how to turn off Driver Verifier. That is why you set a restore point, so if you have trouble you can turn it off by using the restore point.
When you start up, click the start button and type verifier in the search box, click on verifier that appears, in the verifier manager click the radio button that says Delete Existing Settings and click Finish at the bottom. That should turn it off.

That is UIM Drive Backup Image Plugin or Paragon Hard Disk Manager you should be able to find an update from Paragon Software: Download free partition software for home But, I still can't believe a driver will cause your computer to just shut down.

    I've already disabled it.

I know about System Restore. But as I've said since the start of the thread this has been going on for months and months, getting worse all along. I keep system restore points but points made 6+ months ago are not going to still be available.

I'm currently trying to install the newest Logitech Setpoint as I uninstalled the older one earlier this evening and twice now it won't install - it gets stuck. Th first time the installer triggered a reboot.

I'm just going by other things I've read. I've read 2 things can cause these reboots - a driver issue or hardware issues. I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm just trying to stay open-minded about all options, and keeping in mind other things I've read. I appreciate all the advice and I've done just about everything you guys have recommended. It's not like I'm ignoring the advice.

Is there a way to disable this Uim_Vim.sys Paragon backup driver for now so I can eliminate that from the equation?

I ran the PC for hours today without a reboot, and then I went to make dinner and take a shower. When I returned, I moved the mouse cursor, and at that instant it rebooted. I really wish somebody would explain how that points to it being a power supply issue. I'm genuinely trying to understand.

I'm concerned about that BSOD message I got last night with Driver Verifier enabled:

"A Device Driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. The faulty driver currently on the kernal stack must be replaced with a working version."

I'd like to know how to identify which driver it's referring to and how to remove/replace it.

You just quoted it in the post above.

Post #54 could also be a clue.

Was you computer in sleep mode when you came back from dinner?
You could try another mouse and let Windows 7 load the driver.

Oh, you mean the Paragon Uim_Vim.sys? I wasn't aware that was the driver that was triggering the message above.

Nope, I don't use sleep mode. It was in idle on the desktop. Everything was fine until I moved the mouse and then it rebooted.

I let Windows automatically install the driver for the Logitech mouse. A little while later I installed the new version of Setpoint which allows me to customize the mouse buttons. I ran for a while with setpoint uninstalled but the reboots continued so setpoint isn't behind it (I didn't think it was since it's software, but I thought maybe the mouse driver could have been an issue).
