Daemon Tools and its driver should be gone, actually, first thing I killed off when I had the chance. Evidently it did not fully uninstall even with CCleaners assistance. Hmm...

I was actually just looking for a free firewall component. Personally I kind of like the double layer of having two separate programs, one AV, one Firewall, rather than having a Security suite of one program; since that means two different things need to go down for you to lose protection entirely. Especially since, in alot of cases, Suites tend to have one strong, one weak component (Kaspersky is such an example; they have an excellent Antivirus, but only a barely adequate firewall, from what I used to hear). I wouldn't touch Norton or McAfee with a barge-pole.

Alot of people seem to recommend Comodo, but I'm not convinced. I guess I could just see how we go with the Windows Firewall and BitDefender; since we also have a Router Firewall. If I'm full of spyware after a week I'll have to look at other options.

I don't use any security software other than Windows Firewall. I am confident that my firewall configurations on my network will stop any attempts to reach me and I don't run or download anything where I am not 100% sure. Been fine with this tactic for 4 years now, though it is a risky lifestyle to take

If I am desperate or curious I would always see what happens when running inside a VM before executing on my host machine.

eharper and Josh, remember you get what you pay for.

If you still get riddled with malware, best to check who is downloading or clicking on things.

Hmm; all quiet on the western front today methinks. I'll keep updating and if it doesn't show again I'll mark it solved.

No freezes for some time now; so I'll mark it solved. Though I did get a BSOD finally today with my AMD Driver whilst playing Wildstar. But I guess thats another issue for another time.

Windows 7 freezes - programs open very slowly
I have two Dell Vostro 420 machines both with 6 Gb of RAM and both running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Each machine has exactly the same hardware components but different video cards. I only visit "legitimate" websites - no websites that might be known for viruses, etc. Up until about 4...

Windows Explorer freezes when launching programs
The OS is actually Windows Server 2008 R2, but it's essentially the same as Windows 7, so I hope no-one minds there. Anyway, whenever I try to launch a program from within Windows Explorer (be it from the Taskbar, the Start Menu, or by double-clicking on a program in a Computer window) nothing...
