My friend is getting BSOD 0x7b when starting up his computer after he tried updating his windows 7 to service pack 1. All goes back to normal after using system restore. Sorry I didn't include the log file don't have access to that pc at the moment. As I understand this happens because of a corrupt device. So my question is how do I check which device is messing everything up with the least effort? :) Thank you in advance for the assistance.
Stop 0x7B means INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.
It may be caused by a HDD failure including lack of free space in the HDD, a malware infection specially in the system reserved partition (bootkit), messed up boot sequence, or any file system error in the disc.
Usually it makes the computer impossible to boot. But it is good the system restore solved the issue.
For precautionary actions, test the HDD: 12 Free Hard Drive Testing Software Tools
Also scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs (not with the installed antivirus).
