    BSOD at random intervals


    Hi all,

    First time poster, long time listener.

    I started having BSODs about a week ago. They seem to happen randomly, even when I'm not at my computer doing anything. They first started after I attempted to install drivers for my Samsung Galaxy SIII, though I don't necessarily know there is a correlation. Things I've done:

    1) Ran a boot-time virus scan using Avast! free antivirus. There were 3 corrupted zip files, but they had been on the computer for a long while, so I thought nothing of it.

    2) Ran a full scan using Malware Bytes... clean.

    3) Ran a full checkdisk. Clean.

    4) Ran the built-in HP memory, HD, and CPU testing software. Clean.

    5) Tried to use system restore, but says there are no restore points available (!).

    Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! I've attached the requested .zip, as well.

    Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

    Post a screenshot of your Hard Drive(s) using Crystal Disk Info software:

    Run a Hard Drive test:

    Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

    Post back results.

    Hello,

    I followed the steps you outlined in your post. To wit:

    1) Removed Daemon Tools and uninstalled sptd.sys
    2) Reduced the number of startup programs to what I feel is only the essentials
    3) Performed a clean boot. No bluescreens since these measures were taken, but it hasn't been that long, either.
    4) Uninstalled Avast! and Malwarebytes; installed Microsoft Security Essentials
    5) Ran sfs. Results were clean.
    6) Ran crystaldiskinfo. Attached screenshots of results.
    7) Tried to run seatools for DOS. At boot, the only thing on the screen is "reeDOS" and a blinking cursor. I did run an extensive harddrive test using the bulit-in HP tools, and it passed.
    8) Full disk check came back clean.

    Incidentally. after I had said that the chkdsk was clean, I received a notification in the task bar that something was found the last time I ran it (the little white flag in the corner told me). I ran a full chkdsk scan again... is there an easy way to upload that log to you? Thanks again for the help!
