Well, I changed it over to that other driver. The good news is that the iaStor appears to be gone. However, now when I look under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, instead of just seeing the one device, there are now six others (ATA Channel 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5).

When I look under the driver details, the msachi is there, but so are three others.

    Now what?

That is pretty much standard. You are still in AHCI mode. You will also notice when you use the safely remove icon that all of your drives will show as being removable. That is common also. see how you get along with that. The iaStor drivers are still in your system but are not active, which is what you want. So, we'll see if the iaStor was, in fact, the problem.

Okay. What about the Gear software. Should I still try to update that?

I assume you have ITunes and it came with it, as part of iTunes. It should be updated by Apple. I am making an assumption here, that it was not the real cause of the BSOD. Your Sata controller, iaStore, also is the controller for your DVD/CD. If iaStor was the problem, it was the cause of the DVD drive and Gear software being blamed for the crash. So, just leave it alone right now. If you get another BSOD blaming Gear, update it then. At least, that's the way I see it and what I would do, if it were mine.

Well it's been two weeks now and all is well. Not one BSOD, and no drive error messages either. Don't want to jinx myself, but I'm guessing I can mark this one as solved. Thanks for everything!
