BSOD (0x00000119) crashes after updating/reinstalling Radeon HD 5670

Hi. I'm new to the forum and not quite sure how else to proceed with my BSOD issues.

I play WoW, but only started playing again recently after a few years break. I updated my Radeon HD 5670 driver and started getting black screens, errors, driver non-responsive/restarting, BSOD's, etc. I made some changes per posts/articles that I read, renamed a file, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, downloaded suggested files like a JMicron package and Alien Autopsy, etc., and the problem persists.

When I play WoW, my driver stops responding and restarts, which leads to black screens and game restarts. Although this only happens when I first log in, then the game usually plays but with fps rates hovering around 40 on average (my fps never used to be so low). In the last few days, I've noticed a marked slowdown in fps and a weird screeching noise when there is talking in-game but it is not constant. It comes and goes.

I'm also getting BSOD crashes. Sometimes one or two in a day, and sometimes I'll get lucky and it will skip a day. This is now happening when I'm not playing the game and going about my usual business--emails, social media, GDocs, etc. There was one incident a week or two ago where my OS wouldn't even load. I kept having to hard restart and it finally worked.

I can follow instructions pretty well but am not particularly tech savvy. I'm hoping there is an easy fix like an earlier driver version or something similar.

    Thank you for any input.

Stress test your graphics card with Furmark

I recommend running it for around 30 minutes

       Warning

Furmark will increase the temperature of your GPU rapidly so keep and eye on your temperatures

If that finds no problems then please try updating your graphics driver to the latest version.
    Here's some instructions.

I also want you to run Furmark as it looks promising that your GPU is failing.

Thank you for the advice. I attempted to run Furmark twice and in under 3 mins both times, the test window either did a black or whiteout. I ended the test both times and got the idea to move my tower. I've been wondering if it has enough ventilation where it was located and have heard the fan kick into overdrive a few times. After I moved it and attempted the test again, it ran for the full 30 minutes without issue. Could bad ventilation be the issue? Would that explain the video driver errors and issues?

Also, I updated the driver again and launched WoW. Played for about 10 minutes and did not have any of the issues I've been having. I will update after a day or two, or sooner, if I have more issues.

    Thank you again.

    Great news :)

Yes poor ventilation can cause overheating issues.

Let us know if you get any more issues.

When you feel confident that your issue has been resolved then mark the thread as solved.

I waited a few days and have had no problems until just now. The display driver stopped responding and then recovered. No BSOD again...yet.

I've seen a lot of issues with the latest drivers, try rolling back.

    To roll back drivers:
    1. Go to Start
    2. Type devmgmt.msc
    3. Expand display adpaters
    4. Right click on your graphics card
    5. Click on the drivers tab and select roll back driver.

I rolled it back an hour or two after your last post. The driver quit responding right after I rolled it back then was okay until about a minute ago. This time when it quit responding, my screen turned a tan color before it restarted itself.

After I rolled back, I'm at square one, minus the BSOD. Back to daily instances of "AMD driver stopped responding and was restarted." I have no idea what the problem is or how to correct it. Any more feedback and/or suggestions? Thank you!

Hmm, try rolling back even further. I'll give this a think.
I would like to take a look at the drivers in your system

Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView:

    • Download and execute Driverview
    • View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
    • Edit > Select all
    • File > Save Selected Items
    • In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
    • Zip the .txt file and upload it.

    Driverview zip file attached.

As for another rollback, do I choose a previous driver version to roll back to and download that?

    Thank you again.
