    BSOD HP laptop ntoskrnl.exe

    Hello

I've been experiencing the BSOD on my laptop and would like to know if there's anything I can do. It started happening just once a month at first and I didn't really notice it happen but now happens almost every day. It doesn't seem to be linked to any specific action I perform but does seems linked to "ntoskrnl.exe". I've not added any new hardware, except I did replace the battery recently, I can't remember the date I started using the new battery but the BSOD happens with the old one as well.

    so far I have tried:
    - performed a system restoring as far back as I could, but I could not restore as far back as the earliest crash this year.
    - I reinstalled HP update, which updated my drivers and I manually checked they are up to date.
    - uninstalling any programs that were installed around the time the crashes started.
    - running a deep antivirus scan from bitdefender's own equivalent of safe mode
    - checking the hard disk for errors

I haven't experienced the BSOD in safe mode but haven't spent enough time in safe mode to be sure it will not happen.

please let me know if you have any suggestions and if there is anything else I can provide,

    Many thanks,

    Simon

    Hi there,

It seems part of the cause is BitDefender,

    Code:
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\avc3.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for avc3.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for avc3.sys
     avc3+0xf904
    Driver Reference Table - avc3.sys

For the time being, uninstall your Anti-Virus,

    AV Uninstallers

And Install Microsoft Security Essentials which we know doesn't cause BSOD's.

Then there are a few instances of your graphics driver,

    Code:
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\nvlddmkm.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for nvlddmkm.sys
     nvlddmkm+0x254c35
    Which is from 2012,

    Code:
    Loaded symbol image file: nvlddmkm.sys
        Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\nvlddmkm.sys
        Image name: nvlddmkm.sys
        Timestamp: Thu Feb 09 18:02:58 2012 (4F347AD2)
        CheckSum: 00D075A7
        ImageSize: 00D1E000
        Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
Try uninstalling just the driver from device manager,

    Uninstall Device and Device Driver

Restart and let windows install a new driver and see if that helps.

    Thank you,

I've followed your recommendations, I'll get back to you if the problem persists or mark this thread as solved in a few weeks time if it doesn't.
