Windows 7: BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and random freezes

Bill,

I'm beginning to wonder if this is even a BSOD problem anymore, hehe. If anything, perhaps I should look into buying a new computer! But then again, problem solving can be quite fun, and I'm learning quite a bit.

I can't seem to get the pconfig /all >ipCfg.txt to work. Though I do notice in the Event Viewer logs, that (RTL8167) RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller is disconnected from the network. I don't actually connect via Wlan though, I'm on Wifi.

Edit: Ever since I reseated the ram cards, my computer seems to run smoother.

Did you download a "theme" .... something possibly to change the start orb?

You do have adware. Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
Step 1.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Step 2.
Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
This time click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder
******Post both .txt logs

My apologies,

pconfig /all > ipCfg.txt
should be
ipconfig /all > ipCfg.txt

I accidentally deleted the 'i' when I indented the line

Give it another shot after following the directions Jacee gives you.

Once Jacee is done working her magic, we can continue on other steps.

Hello Jacee!

Yes, I am using a custom theme/start orb. I've downloaded Adwcleaner. I will report back with the results upon completion.

Ok, there's something, but this is just a note for after Malware scanning / cleaning.

edit: Nope, methinks I should have read that 3 times. It looks as though you entered "Path set" on one line
We'll go over it later - no sweat.

The path simply points to set. It should look more like this:
Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>path
PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\System32
\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared

C:\WINDOWS\system32>
There might be some path specific to Bamboo as well. We'll come back to this later.

Keep following Jacee's advice until the end of that exercise.

Thanks,

Bill

Out of curiosity, would a complete reinstall of windows 7 be beneficial? My files are backed up anyways, so it wouldn't be a lost.

Bill: Is it safe to post such a file that contains what seems to be crucial information online?

I've been thinking of suggesting that, but I'm reluctant to go there until other attempts are exhausted.

That sounds like a wonderful idea though.

Three Two things before running this tutorial:
1) create your HP Recovery media (Reinstall discs) if you haven't already
2) download your Ethernet driver from HP
Realtek PCIe GBE/FE Family Controller Driver - HP Pavilion dv7-2270us Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support
Place it on a thumb drive for install after the Windows re-install
3) Make sure you have your license keys for any software you've purchased. The COA sticker on the bottom of the DV7 will be used to activate Windows, make sure you can read the numbers.
You'll have to reinstall your favorite apps afterwards.

Connecting over Ethernet after the install makes the whole process much quicker and more reliable.
When you're done installing Windows - manually run Windows Updates until nothing more is offered.
Check the optional updates for hardware drivers. WU is the easiest way to get good drivers.

Read the tutorial first and ask any questions before you start. It's very straight forward step-by-step instructions and you seem quite capable getting around your machine.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

An after thought - if the issue is hardware, the reinstall won't fix the issue.
Although if it's HW driver related, it might.

Your call

Let me know and I'll let Jacee know

Thanks

An after-after thought

Make sure you know all of your passwords to sites - the cookies that hold that information won't exist after the re-install.

It's like speed dial on your phone - if you lose your phone, you can't call your friends because all you remember is that they are #7 on your speed dial - lol

edit: Yes, it's safe - there isn't any real 'private' info in any reports members ask you to post.
Once in a while someone forgets to remove their email address or Windows Pid, but the admins are very watchful and will edit the post to remove the information. Other members are just as mindful about privacy and will advise you to pull any sensitive information before the admin sees it.

So, yes it's safe. Users\Bill or Users\Sin isn't going to give anyone special information that might be useful.
