Thanks for the updates on your progress and the confirmation Avast has fixed the issue with flagging the tool.

There still aren't any dumps so again a good sign, unfortunately there isn't a test for motherboards so everything else has to be eliminated first.

It is sounding more like the game to me, what game is it?

Well its any steam game thats giving me the problem. Nothing on my system has changed back from when it used to work, reinstalling windows and steam both didnt fix the problem. Games I have had this crash in, Terraria, warframe, torchlight 2, sacred 2. Other than these games I have played some league of legends, and also the witcher for 1.5 hours with no issues. The only game that crashes it predictably is Terraria.

I have contacted steam support and given them all the info, but Its not a game issue because none of my friends are having any issues with anything. Its gotta be my computer hardware. I had 1 core fail once in prime 95 after passing only 6 tests. And also a BSOD while running hot cpu pro 4 lite edition.

I am looking at a motherboard to replace the one I have right now, only 80 bucks and it supports the next gen of processors so if it doesnt fix the problem i can upgrade that next. So looks like im just going to have to slowly upgrade till the problem is fixed i think.

Could the motherboard be the cause of my cpu failing those tests before? I dont have consistent issues with anything other than the one game Terraria. But it happens every single time. Iv googled so much over the past week i have read all threads, its not a driver issue, or software conflict of any kind. Its gotta be my hardware.

I'm not familiar with that hot cpu test you keep talking about, I haven't seen it mentioned here before, but you also ran prime 95 which is regularly suggested here.

I'll get some hardware folks over here to help you narrow down the cause.

Keep checking windows update until you've got all your updates.

Im updating as we speak, it'll take a while yet, i ran chkdsk for some hours on my hd to scan for bad sectors. Nothing came up bad. Its wierd my computer can pass a 6 hour stress test, but cant run a 16 bit 2d game for 20 minutes without crashing my computer. It really makes me think its my motherboard. Here is the info, Im still installing updates so its not quite up to date windows yet.Attachment 324027

Avast downloaded that tool no problem this time. Im really sorry for assuming things, im paranoid .
Im glad avast isnt providing a false positive now :)
Windows X64 is not able to run 16 bit programs. If you have Professional or Ultimate you can run X86 XP mode and it can probably run it.

Well its not really 16 bit, its just an indie game. Not 3d type like most AAA games nowadays. I just got back from mowing over at my moms and found someone else who is having, or had the same issue here. Steam Community :: Guide :: Terraria crash at startup
He describes my exact problem while trying to run terraria, very strange that someone else is having the same issue.
Im going to run some of the other games that crash and view it in the event viewer, ill post what it says so you guys can take a look. Might narrow down the issue.

Ok Im going to give up the ghost on this one and replace hardware starting with the motherboard. I have been googling my brains out and trying to find a fix for this since 6/28, everything points to the motherboard being my problem. Cpu passes prime95 2 hour test so its not that, no artifacts in furmark, hd chkdsk came up fine with no bad sectors, ram passed memtest86.

Its a pity, but it was only under warranty for 3 years, since its been over 3 years I guess they built it exactly the way they wanted lol.

Thanks all for trying to help, Ill fix it if it kills me :)

Keep us posted and let us know how you get along, it'd be nice to know if it was the motherboard.

Being most of your other components have been tested it would tend to narrow it down, what PSU do you have? Did you check that out at all?

What power supply do you have? Brand, model and size? I am not really convinced it is a hardware problem. You state you are only having problems with Steam games, and it seems only the older ones. Have you run all the Windows Updates and are you overclocking?

Not overclocking, windows is up to date, not all older steam games give me the problem. Torchlight 2, warframe, those are pretty recent games. I have an ultra 700w bronze certified psu. Ultra ULT40450 Power Supply
