Are you running Raid? You are using a Raid controller, which is iaStor, or IRST. Both are one and the same.

I'm not brilliant at these types of things. Can you let me know how I can determine this, please?

Please Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image

Also, please tell me how many physical hard drives you have in your Laptop. I know most Laptops only have one, but I have one with 2 hard drives, just want to check.

Thank you! I just have a stock HP Pavilion dv6, so I am quite sure I have only 1 drive. Here's a shot of my Disk Management. Oh, and of course that Accelerating Guitar is just a DVD that I have in there. =)

There is absolutely no reason Acer put your default sata controller mode to Raid. Could you please go into bios and look for sata controllers or sata mode and tell me what it's set to? Don't change it, just tell me what it is set to. By looking at Device manager it looks like it must be set to raid.

I hit F10 during startup to enter my BIOS, which was displayed as InsydeH2O Setup Utility. I browsed all through it, and nothing mentioned SATA or controllers. =\

OK, no problem, thanks for trying. But, at this point, you cannot remove the iaStor driver, I'm pretty sure. If you remove it, you will not be able to boot. Try expanding storage controllers, right click the raid driver entry. select properties then the driver tab. It should tell you the driver name, version and date. Please both tell me what it is and go to your laptop on HP's web site and look for a driver that is newer than that The newer ones will have a newer date and a higher version number. this will show you what I mean. This is from my computer.

Here we are. And, I take it the "Driver Update" wouldn't help?

On the HP site. They scanned for my laptop, and then scanned for any driver updates. They said there were no available updates. However, I dug around the site manually for drivers, and I did find...

    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    2012-02-24, Version 11.0.0.1032, 8.55M

Interesting. The date is about 3 months newer, but the Version number is exactly the same as what I already have, per my screen shot above...

I'll check back with you later. Let me know if you think I should try and install this one. I'll keep the link handy.

No, if the version number is the same, it should be the same driver. You can try the intel update Utility. Intel® Driver Update Utility
