bluescreen error at every start of windows

    Helo everyone,

I have sony vaio Laptop model no vpceb44en from last 3 years. It works fine till Last week. Suddenly blue screen error comes up while playing game. So I didnt get attention on it. Next day when I power on my laptop I found that my laptop screen is not gatting on but other system goes on as it is. So I went to sony care where they diagnose that lcd needs to be replaced nd gave me high quote for it, so I get it back. For the experiment purposes I connected monitor with my lapi to see if other problem is there or what! Nd I found that my laptop's other functions working fine except laptop's display. I found another thing that when I try to start windows in normal mode bule screen error comes every time. But in safe mode its working fine. Meanwhile I had notice that laptop screen gets turned on some times.
So I was clear that there is no fault in display. There is something another reason that not allow display to turn on.
I google it for blue screen error and I come across this site nd found so many threads on it. So very next I re installed my Windows 7. Nd alas!!! My laptop working fine nd diaplay gets on too!!! But after 2 days the same problem occurs.
Before getting this error I have updated all my drivers except display drivers coz it shows that it is allready updated. Though I faced this problem.
Now again my display not getting on. Nd again I have to connect another monitor to laptop nd start my windows in safe mode. This time I had tried to restore my window to earlier state but still no any improvement. Now I m trying to reinstall Windows again nd at the middle of the setup process blue screen error comes again nd again nd I have to start the setup again nd again. Now its headache for me becose this blue screen error neither allow to turn laptop display nor allow me to install new os.
    Please suggest something.

One thing that to be noted is that every time the blue screen error is same - 0x00000116. I can not upload dump file because now my laptop has no os but I have a snapshot of this error

    Hi krunal.

    A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics issue. What you explained .....
I try to start windows in normal mode bule screen error comes every time. But in safe mode its working fine. Meanwhile I had notice that laptop screen gets turned on some times.
.... gives it a sense that the GPU is failing there.

Your computer should have ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

You need to replace the GPU, not the LCD.

    Hii Arc,

Thanks for your reply. And thanks for ur suggestion. Is Laptop's graphics card replacable? Where can I find my graphics card in laptop? Yesterday I open all back cases but could not find any kind of ATI logo on any chip!
And what is the reason behind this failure? Overheating or any else?
Furthermore I want to know if my laptop can be operate as normal without graphics card? Because I m not a game lover nd I found that many laptops don't have graphics card in it.?

    Hi krunal. :)

Laptops may have three different GPU options.

    • Accelerated Processor Graphics or APU.
    • Dedicated Graphics Card.
    • Both or Dual/switchable graphics.

Apparently your computer vpceb44en falls in the second category.
    Graphics

Graphics Accelerator: ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 Graphics
    Dedicated Video Memory: 512 MBDDR3
The mobility radeon cards look like this ...

Search in the market, either the exact model or a close alternative is available there. Changing the GPU is not troublesome at all. Just remove the old card from the PCIe slot and fix the new one.

I doubt that the computer will work without the GPU, because as per the specs there is no option for an onboard graphics.

    Hii Arc,
Again thanks a lot for this valuable information.
Today evening I was just trying to install Windows 7 32 bit from another source, the installation was done successfully nd my display also working fine for the first time but this time my laptop get heated badly so I turned off my laptop for while nd then turned it on again but this time display fails to work, I connected another monitor nd work on it.
Then on Windows I do like this-
    1. Open device manager
2.Select display adaptors and update standard vga graphics adapter.
Due to update I found ati mobility redon hd 5470 drivers installed. After installing this driver it ask me to restart laptop. After restarting windows logo appear and then again that blue screen error comes nd laptop get restarted. So I uninstalled that driver in safe mode nd again restart my laptop nd then it works fine. During this operation my lcd screen was not turning on all the time. Still it is off, I am working on secondary screen.
I want to know that the reason behind that is a faulty gpu or something else? Nd after uninstalling ati driver, why screen of the laptop doesn't turned on?

In this situation, control the heat first. Open the laptop, clean teh inside very carefully without breaking anything. Clean the air vents and fan grills. Also apply new thermal paste to the CPU.

    It will control the heat.

If the situation remains the same even after that, nothing more is there to do but replacing the GPU.

If you take the laptop to a service person, get the thermal paste reapplied too, without missing. :)

    Hii Arc,

Finally my laptop has been repaired. Overheating problem is cured by applied thermal paste on it. GPU is working fine. the fault is in some display IC which had been replaced and now display working fine without any BSOD error.
    Thanks for your help Arc.
