unexpected BSOD, cannot boot to windows

Hey guys

I shut down my computer the other night and the next morning ran into an issue of BSOD. I tried startup repair, to no avail. Now it will boot into startup repair or if I choose to use my windows 7 cd I can get into repair options/command line. I try copying my files over using command line and get BSOD during the copy.

The BSOD is sometimes different but typically PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA , or the same with ntfs.sys. I've had one that said memory_management as well.

No recent hardware changes, software could have been and issue unless the hardware is simply failing (such as RAM).

I am using Windows 7 x64 and was able to get the dump file from the time is did create one.

Also, I attempted a reinstall of the OS, but after it copied the windows files, it got about 10-20% through the second part... inflating? and failed. Happened a couple times.

Hi Braveheart93,

Although I can't help you with your BSOD problem because my entire expertise is comprised of the fact that I have the same problem as you since the day before yesterday, I can make a suggestion for how to salvage your files easily and inexpensively - if you have a second computer.

You can get one of these C2G / Cables to Go 30504 USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial ATA Drive Adapter for less than $ 20 on Amazon. I just hooked this up to my hard drive inside my BSOD computer, and connected it via the USB cable to my laptop and proceeded to extract all my valuable files onto an attached (to the laptop) hard drive. Whatever is wrong with my computer does not seem to have affected my files and I have been able to extract as many as I have asked for so far. Still have a ways to go.

This cable will also allow me to now run a full virus and malware check on that HD and once I have all that done, I will probably end up asking on here for advice on how to restore that computer.

Hi Stephanie,

Thank you! I will look into getting one within the next couple weeks. I may just end up ordering one from Amazon as you suggested. I appreciate the advice because my primary concern was that I would be losing my files. Hopefully this gets worked out and this thread will help you with your problems as well!
