Windows 7: Windows explorer crashes and everything's slow

Hi. I just installed Windows 7, but I am having some problems with Windows Explorer crashing very often,
mostly happens when I try to drag a file to copy somewhere else, or when I right click for something.
Sometimes, for example, I tried to drag an icon to the trash, not only did it not happen, but the icon and a phantom image of the icon (like half way to the trash can) stayed on the screen until I restarted the computer.
Other times, for example, I'll try to put my cursor on a search window, and it will take many clicks until it actually works and I can write something, it's like the computer doesn't respond.
Can somebody tell me of a fix for this in layman terms, please? I have looked for other threads talking about this but they are all way too technical for me.
