BSOD error 0x0000009F while closing down

Recently my machine has been taking a long time to close down. Usually I get impatient and switch it off manually, but yesterday I left the room to do something else, and when I got back I found the BSOD saying DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

Strangely I don't see any other problems, except that twice in the last week, when I logged on, my adapter was disabled - could this be a related problem? It's a Qualcomm Atheros 802.11 a/b/g/n DualBand Wireless Network Module.

I ran MalwareBytes, as suggested in someone's post, and it didn't report any problems.

Hope you guys can help!

TIA

It is GFI Languard 11. I would suggest you to uninstall it.

Also the WiFi driver needs to be updated. The Qualcomm Atheros 802.11 a/b/g/n Dualband Wireless Network Module

Thanks for your prompt reply!

GFI Languard didn't show up in my list of Programs and Features, but it was in C:\Programs, so I deleted it there. Hope that's OK.

I am confused about the Qualcomm driver, as all the pages I have found seem to be full of codes like AR5006EG, and chipset AR2424 - how do I find out which is the correct one to use? Is there a way to find out which hardware is actually installed on my machine? Or should I just install some driver package and hope it can figure it out?

Also, people seem to feel that the most reliable source of drivers is the one in the Czech Republic - is this right?

Finally, is DriverScanner a recommended tool - it seems to be one you have to pay for - I think...

Hope you can help! TIA

Just an update - I found a driver on https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-drivers.html , which says 10.0.0.285 - my machine was at 10.0.0.67 so I guess I was pretty out of date! I think I installed it correctly, so I guess we'll see how it goes. My Internet is still up, so I think that's a good sign!

I will follow up in a few days to say if my problems at close-down went away!

Thanks for your help!

PS DriverScanner reported a lot of other drivers as being out of date, but you didn't - should I worry about them? Thanks

This DriverScanner is a ad in this page.
It is like others, Registry Cleaner, and other cleaners.

Any more BSOD's?

Many thanks, Arc and Hexagon12! Machine came down clean last night! I will of course keep an eye on it, but it looks like we're good to go!

My question about DriverScanner came from the fact that it correctly reported that my Atheros driver was ancient, but it is reporting several others as ancient also, esp. in the Audio area. The machine is quite old, so I'm ready to believe it - but I don't know whether to take action preemptively... or wait until I get more problems - I don't use the audio much... Any advice?

BTW I have now uninstalled DriverScanner, as Arc suggested, but I found its results interesting...

Thanks again,

Paul M.

If you are worried, let us have a look.

Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
  • Download and execute Driverview
  • View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
  • Edit > Select all
  • File > Save Selected Items
  • In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
  • Zip the .txt file and upload it.
