I ran IPDT several times now and get a PASS. I will now install and try my application.

While running prime95 and IPDT, I noticed that instead of 3.2GHz, the processor is run at 3.5GHz and at some stages during IPDT at 3.8GHz.and even 4.0GHz according to the results text file. How is that possibly possible? I never touched the BIOS after flashing it several times along my three week journey...

    Possibly Turbo mode?

Turbo… as in a Porsche Cayenne? I never touched the BIOS and physical mainboard switches. Maybe the "optimised defaults" in ASUS' BIOS are overclocker-friendly? I will take a look now…

…ok, it's set to "Normal", not "ASUS Optimal". When looking (only looking!) at the "Ai Tweaker" menu in Advanced Mode, there are two yellow lines of print on top: "Target CPU Turbo-Mode Speed: 3800MHz" and "Target DRAM Speed: 1600MHz". In the Advanced Mode's "Advanced" menu and (why?) "Ai Tweaker" menu, I see that Turbo Mode is enabled. So I better disable that.

Yes its probably best while we are testing, turbo mode (when your CPU is at high usage so it ramps up the GHZ)

Turbo mode is completely normal. If you've ever noticed the CPU clocks down very low while idling. Normal speed is something like 3.2 for your chip, I don't really recall. It then has a turbo mode which ramps up when you need extra power. It is not being overclocked at all, it is the normal mode. The way the CPU and chipset is designed to work. I would leave it enabled. Intel designed it to do that. Little power when it isn't needed more power when it is needed. It is made to work that way.

Yes, actually says so in the leaflet that came with the processor. Was just wondering if the BIOS was bogus.

Well, my application is installed and works, albeit I see not in Intel's "Turbo Mode", but "only" at 3.5GHz. Maybe because the application is set to compute in low priority mode; anyway, let's see how it goes...

Yours will drop pretty low at idle, 3.2 on a normal load and turbo @3.8 or so, depending on how your board sets it up. Maybe slightly more or slightly less.

I have an Ivy Bridge i7-3770K at stock, (which mine has never seen ) I drop to 1.6GHz idling on the desktop, 3.5 normal and somewhere around 3.8-3.9 on Turbo. Yours works similar, just a lot stronger and more cores and threads.

I am running my application and use an internet browser since two days now.

Since the re-install, the application crashed once (not Windows) for a reason I can't know, and I had one BSOD 0x9c MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION when scrolling through the Windows Event Viewer while Adobe was installing Flash.

Upload the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and I'll look at it tomorrow. But it seems everything is going better, doesn't it? Not that any BSODs are OK, but it seems there is an improvement don't you think? Just make sure your Windows Updates are installed and up to date. Also please

Open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Cheers, please find attached the ZIP-file from SF Diagnostic Tool.

Surely things have improved, if that single BSOD is "ok-ish" if off a minor cause (Event Viewer and Flash install). Windows is updated. As has always been the case, before the first and second re-install and after, sfc /scannow yields no errors.

By the way, what I still do not understand, not that it is the critical issue here, is why the 3.2GHz stock speed CPU only runs at 3.5GHz and not 3.8GHz, because in the BIOS "Turbo Mode" is set to automatic instead of disabled. IPDT output text file reports that even 4.0GHz was tested. How would I enable "Turbo Mode" if the BIOS setting does not seem to induce it?
