Random BSOD while browsing/gaming
Hello,
Over the last half year I've experienced issues with my new DIY windows 7 machine. The system will (without notice) freeze and emit a high-pitched buzzing noise coming from my headphones and the only solution is to turn the system off and restart it. At times I will experience this multiple times in a day while in other cases it will take a week or so before the next one 'hits' me. I cannot pinpoint what program (if at all) would be causing this as I've been browing, watching a youtube video, and playing games while this happens. Furthermore, when I check the Event Viewer, there are no hints as to what is the problem ("the computer shut down unexpectedly.")
I've frequented the same issue on these boards and other websites and have not had any success so far in determining the cause. I do not have a strong background in computers but I am led to believe it could potentially be something with the motherboard (possibly audio drivers?) as I dust my computer out every month (to avoid heat issues) and have swapped out my GPU and PSU due to other issues. I've also reformatted and have had the problem persist so I don't believe there to be any software issues that would be causing this.
However, in the last week or so I received a prompt to install my USB controller device (via the Action Centre) and while I downloaded the .exe, there was no wizard to install it. I am wondering if this would be correlated to my problem?
My specs are as follows:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel i5 3750K
ASUS Z778LK-V mobo
1 TB WD Caviar Black
8 GB Ram (I believe this is Corsair Hyper X, is there anyway I can check this without pulling out the sticks?)
ASUS GTX660 2GB
Corsair HX650W PSU
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
