atikmdag.sys BSOD when browsing/playing Runescape - AMD APU

    Hi all,

Built a new HTPC yesterday and am having random BSODs whilst browsing the internet, being as this was to hard to replicate efficiently I started looking at other websites. I've found that going on Runescape causes the BSOD within a couple of minutes of playing, so have been using this test to see if any fixes have worked.

I have updated my bios to the latest version for my motherboard and have upgraded to the latest version of AMD drivers for APUs. I have also uninstalled these drivers, run driver sweeper and then re-installed them but none of these solved the issue.

(I don't know if it's also worth mentioning but I keep getting the "Aw Snap" screen regularly in Google Chrome, not sure if it's related/relevant?)

    PC Specs:
CPU: AMD 16-6400K APU - Stock
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A55M-HD2
    RAM: Kingston 4GB DDR3-1333
    PSU: Corsair CX600w
    Wireless Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN727N
    HDD: Western Digital 250GB - 5400rpm
    (Case: CiT Galaxy Evo B)

    Dump files below

Any help would be really appreciated :)

Your Windows installation is counterfeit, you have an ACER PID on a Gigabyte retail motherboard.

Counterfeit installations such as yours can contain heavily modified code that can cause the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSODs and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is completely unreliable, and for this reason most analysts won't attempt it.

My recommendation is to install a genuine copy of Windows 7. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing and make subsequent diagnosis of BSODs far more reliable. Once you are running a genuine Windows 7 installation and are still experiencing BSODs, upload your new logs we will be happy to help you solve them.

Thank you for your quick reply. I didn't realise my version was counterfeit, my friend installed Windows on it yesterday and I assumed it was the official version. I'll order a key, re-install and see if the problems persist, thank you very much for your help.

You're welcome. One thing I would say is do not opt for an Ultimate key, it is much more expensive than Home Premium (or even Professional) and you will never have any need for the added features. Once you've bought your key, download the relevant ISO for your version from Digital River, create a bootable USB stick with your ISO (Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool) and then follow Clean Install Windows 7 for the perfect installation.

If you need any more help or have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.
