BSOD caused by NETIO.SYS while uTorrent running - Zip attached

    Hello Guys,

as described in the title, my problem is when uTorrent is running I got BSOD randomly between 5-15 minutes. I have already removed Avira antivirus and instal MSE and I'm using the stock Windows Firewall. I installed the most up do date drives (I think they are, but might be wrong.. :) )

Could you please check my attachment and give me a possible solution.

Thanks in advance for your kindly support.

    Hi ozeus.

Download and install Drivers for Atheros AR9485WB and Windows 7.
Follow Driver Install - Device Manager to install it.

    Let us know the result.

    Hi Arc,

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried the driver install, it was successful, but my laptop got BSOD again after some minutes.

    I attached the fresh ZIP.

    Could you please check it?

P.S.: The laptop is about 2-3 months old. At the beginning everything was just fine, with Avira Antivirus too. Then I got some update to windows which I installed and the problem started to occur after that. Don't know if it is relevant or not.

Yes, the driver is now updated.
    Code:
        Image name: athrx.sys
        Timestamp: Fri Feb 21 14:19:10 2014 (53071306)
But it still blames the same thing.
    Code:
    fffff880`037e0d28 fffff880`085b0701Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\athrx.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for athrx.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for athrx.sys
     athrx+0xc3701
So there is something else that is causing the network to fail, but not coming in the front.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
    3. Select the “Startup” tab.
    4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
    5. Apply > OK
    6. Accept then restart.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

    • Double click to open it.
    • Click this button only:
    • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

Let us know how the computer is running. If the issue continues then we will take some tests.

    Hello Arc,

I am sorry for the late answer, but I had to work much in this week. :) I tried every step you said, but it came up with the same result, after a while the laptop crashed while utorrent was running.

I'm ready for the test. :)

Now enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

       Information
    Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

       Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

       Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

    Hello Arc,

my laptop was working fine in the past week, but now it just crashed. Not BSOD, but restarted suddenly.
Could you please check the attached zip?

    Thanks in advance,
    oZeus

P.S.: the driver verifier was running continuously trough the week.

Disable verifier. It is not needed anymore.

It seems to be a mystery now. I am failing to find anything specific that might cause network failure there.

As a test, uninstall Lenovo Energy Management. It might cause the ports to sleep which may in turn inactivate the network adapter for a while. Though it is guess only.

    Let us know the result.

As I said, everything that is related with autostart is turned off. I am using the microsoft's built in energy management. The last occurrence of reboot was not a BSOD, the laptop just simply restarted somehow. I plan to test to turn on all disabled autostart programs one by one to try out which one is causing the problems.

I really appreciate your efforts and I will come back with the result, if there will be any. :)

Can you consider a clean reinstall? If it is driver related issue then it will be minimized by it. At the same time, a clean reinstall is the best way to get rid of factory bloatware like Lenovo Energy Management. It will give you such an installation that will maximize windows native performance.
