Random BSOD due to win3k.sys error message

Hey everybody, I recently built a computer and it ran fine for awhile until I started getting random BSOD's. It seems like whenever I come back from sleep mode is when it triggers it. I have run a few tests and can't seem to figure it out. I don't think it is overheating, because the processor temperature sits around 90F which is normal. I also ran a memory diagnostic test and it also came back normal. I just ran a windows system check and it also came back normal. I have read that this error message is typically related to memory or overheating, but I can't seem to find the problem. Please help!

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Hello rlister302, welcome to Seven Forums. I will try to help you with this problem. I have looked at your dump files and Have checked all the ones from the past month. The one thing in common, is all but 1 reference is to the NTFS file system.

This is from your sata controller, but it is simply a file that allows writing crash dumps, but still telated to a sata controller which affects hard drives and the file system.

This is your Nvidia drivers, which we will update.

Please visit your motherboard's web site for your motherboard and update any drivers that you have installed

You have filled out your system specs, but what PSU do you have and what CPU cooler? Also

Open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Please also run Western Digital's diagnostic test. Please run the one from DOS as it will give you a more accurate result. If it won't work use the one for Windows. http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...id=613&lang=en

Also please run Check disk Disk Check

also please update your Nvidia drivers using this method, it sounds like a lot, but it really isn't.

Also, if you are overclocking anything, please set your BIOS to defaults and anything else back to default levels.

I am in the middle of installing the NVIDIA graphics drivers after I uninstalled all of them. The processor cooler was included with the processor, and the PSU is a Cooler Master Semi-Modular 650w. I'm not overclocking anything, and I'm going to run the HDD diagnostic test as well as the system scan. I did one before I uninstalled anything, and it said that no errors were detected. I will post back here as soon as I have run these other tests. Thanks for the help so far man!

I have completed all the tests and everything came back OK. I have a feeling it might have been the device drivers. Thanks for all the help!

You may very well be correct. But give it a while to be sure you are stable. Once you believe you are stable, please mark the thread solved. If you have any more BSODs, please run the BSOD posting instructions again and upload them in a new post.

It's been a few days, and normally my computer would have crashed at least once. Thanks for the help man. I think that solved the problem!
