Windows 7: BSOD After opening Chrome

BSOD After opening Chrome

I built my own computer about 2-3 months ago. It was working fine for about a month or two, then I had issues but I was able to fix them. About a month later, it was having issues again where it was freezing up and wouldn't let me do anything. After extensive research, I found out that it was one of the third party services that was causing it. I was able to fix that yesterday by disabling the third party service.

All day yesterday, I was able to play games, browse the internet, all the normal stuff I usually do. It was lightning fast and I had no issues until the evening. In the evening, I noticed that Google Chrome was being very slow, but everything else on my computer was fast. After I closed it and tried re-opening it, it decided not to open at all and looked like it was opening in the task manager but didn't properly open like it should. I clicked on it a bunch of times to try and get it to open, but I'm not sure if that influenced what happened next. After a few minutes of that, I opened internet explorer to try and find a solution to my problem. About 10 seconds after I opened IE, I was greeted by a blue screen, and then it restarted. After it restarted, it was acting normal again, but I am posting this because I don't think this is normal.

I'm not sure if opening IE with Google Chrome already trying to be opened was a bad combination and it crashed, or if it was a simple bug. That's why I am posting here. I have attached my zip file containing the files from the DM Log Collector.

Hi WiredHF.

Test your HDD using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows. Take both the short test and the extended test.

Let us know the results.

Ok, I will do that when I have a chance. I'm currently posting this from my laptop because neither Chrome or internet explorer are working on my desktop currently. I'm really thinking about just re-installing windows.

Also, this is a software issue, correct? I just built this computer a little less than 3 months ago and there shouldn't be any issues with the hardware.

Oh, I'm sorry about that. I ended up reinstalling windows because this was making me mad. I still wanted to do this test though to be sure.

After installing this program, I ran a quick test. Right after it started, it popped up with this error:

"Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete!
Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure checkpoint = 97
(Unknown Test)
SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!"

You should have trusted the person who is helping you. They know what they are saying. It would have at least saved the effort of a clean install.

As the system is new, ask the vendor for a replacement disc.

I only did a clean install due to the fact that I didn't have anything to lose.

I think that the drive just failed or something because I just had another BSOD and now it's not letting me access that drive. I bought it from NCIX ~3 months ago so I'm not sure how good their customer support is.

Any ideas on why this could've happened? Is there a possibility of faulty new hard drives?

This is not a question, man! A disc is failing because it is failing. Nothing else. Clean and simple.

New or old, it is failing.

Ok, thanks for the help. I am new to these kinds of things and didn't realize this. I'm trying to talk to a customer service rep now about the faulty drive.

Report the read line in post #6 to them and claim for a quick replacement.
