Uninstall Panda Free Antivirus. Use the tool available here to do it: Uninstallers (removal tools) for common Windows antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Let us know for any further BSOD.

Well that resulted in a hot mess. ESET removal tool found "something" it could not remove and suggested it be removed manually. I used the Panda Uninstaller and got a BSOD when the uninstaller initiated a reboot. After shutting it down cold, OS pointed me to repair ... couldn't repair so did a restore.

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033
    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 93
    BCP1: 0000000000000220
    BCP2: FFFFF8A0000019E0
    BCP3: FFFFF8A000003880
    BCP4: 0000000000000001
    OS Version: 6_1_7601
    Service Pack: 1_0
    Product: 768_1
Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Windows\Minidump\110214-23930-01.dmp
    C:\Users\Sharon\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-46909-0.sysdata.xml

    Dump File:

    Attachment 339084

Not sure where I'm at now so I'll retry Panda removal later.

I think you have done something wrong there. The link that I supplied you should bring you to this placeAnd you should have taken the highlighted one, resulting this download....Now the restore got Panda nicely back there where it was.
    Code:
    Start Menu\Programs\Panda Free Antivirus
So you have to do the process again.
But, the present problem is the display driver.
    Code:
    BugCheck 93, {220, fffff8a0000019e0, fffff8a000003880, 1}

The applied driver is not a good one.
    Code:
        Image name: nvlddmkm.sys
        Timestamp: Thu Dec 19 22:32:52 2013 (52B326BC)
Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller.

Then download and install 340.52 WHQL.

Follow NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems to have a perfect and clean driver installation.
Let us know for any further issue.

Sunday = family stuff ... sorry for delay.

Ok so if I understand you, we are now NOT worried about Panda ... or shall I still attempt another uninstall with the Panda uninstaller? Perhaps I was unclear above ... when ESET AV remover suggested a manual uninstall I DID use the Panda Uninstaller which you have highlighted. It resulted in the BSOD. Shall I try it again?

I will attempt to uninstall / change up the NVidia driver per your instructions in the meantime.

Also, there was yet another BSOD (after the restore I think, but I was pretty fuzzy by that hour so I'm not sure):

    Attachment 339169

I'll keep you posted. Thank you for your patience with this ... mine's about run out!

Edit Update: I couldn't download the Display Driver Uninstaller ... each version I tried was reported as "Error. This download link is invalid."

Shall I simply follow the instructions at NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems and hope for the best?

Yes, attempt another uninstallation of Panda.

And, try DDU from here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 13.5.1.0

Uninstalled Panda but there's a whole folder of stuff left. Installed the new nVidia driver with no issues. HOWEVER, now I can ONLY get to google (home page) on the net. Thus, I am writing from a working laptop to let you know I intend to do a clean install on that miserable desktop. This will be from a bootable .iso from digitalriver rather than the factory oem junk. Wish me luck; otherwise, I will end up with a rather expensive paperweight.

Now to find the drivers ...

A perfect decision, I must to say. Go for it.

Then, dont install craps like Panda or ASC anymore. :)

Get the Chipset, LAN and Audio drivers (and not the SATA, it will not be needed) from here: Support For 760GM-P23 (FX)

To get a perfect clean reinstall, which will be driver complete itself and will maximize the native performance of windows, follow it: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

    All the best.

Yes ... found that site and saved to dvd with extra save to external HDD. Question: after Win7 install, do I let WinUpdate do it's thing first or install Lan, chipset, audio and NVidia drivers (in that order I think) and THEN go to WinUpdates?

Have you ever tried Advanced SystemCare7.

When you use its uninstaller utility it does a deep uninstall and clears all the stuff associated with an application. Beside a whole lot else when you run the care and stuff from the toolbox tab.

As for the current installation, it is total garbage at this point. I will keep your recommendation in mind once I get a working installation in the event I need to uninstall anything in the future. Revo Uninstaller Pro is nice as well but for the fact that it's a pay-fer after the trial.
