Thanks for helping.

I was using latest Ubuntu LiveCD 'Try Ubuntu' mode to transfer data from two 500GB WD Blue HDDs (the faulty one and another) to a new 1TB WD Green HDD. I was able to transfer all the 600GB of data, during which the system hanged 3 times (all from the other HDD) and I had to manually restart it. Each time only the files which were in progress were being shown as 0 bytes while the rest of the data was all there. The system hangs occurred while transfering a few specific folders which were also completed after the restarts. Is there any chance of the other data being damaged?

I have previously used Ubuntu version 12 to transfer data between drives without any problems. Is this a bug in the Ubuntu version or is my new 1TB HDD faulty?

That is happening because of the HDD. You may not be able to back up all the data as it is appearing.

Thanks for helping. Sorry for my late reply.

I was finally able to backup all the data from this drive after three hangs\restarts.

I ran SeaTools on the remaining 500GB HDD and it failed the Short and Long Tests (with 4 errors). Upon restart, chkdsk prompt appeared and results after scan showed 16kb of bad sectors and repaired some files on it. Is it possible to repair this drive with a WD specific software like SeaTools? I checked the WD website but the Diagnostic Utility only detects errors.

BSOD, multiple errors, possibly failing hardware
Hello. Recently I've been having quite a few BSOD aswell as a number of freezes. The BSOD's happen seemingly random and I think they've been primarily 'd1' and 'a' errors. I'm hoping there'll be a log of past BSOD's in the diagnostics tool file. The freezes only ever happen when I'm using a web...
