Most likely, that's what a technician will do.

A clean install for we would be the absolute last option. I have a ton of minor tweaks and settings that I don't want to have to set up again.
A technician would simply perform a clean install and charge you for it. Unfortunately I see no other option at this stage.

I think the only path left is to follow the tutorial Steve linked earlier

I'm going to try and restore back to before the problem using an external backup drive. Good idea? (I did think of this before but that was when I was still getting the BSOD and I had problems restoring).

    Problem Devices:

    Code:
Security Processor Loader Driver ROOT\LEGACY_SPLDR\0000 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
The Security Processor Loader Driver is usually present as the result of a mal-ware infection - or an infection that wasn't completely removed.

    What anti-virus are you using?

Just the default Microsoft Security Essentials. I did a quick scan today and it turned up clean.

I tried to do a system restore from my user account, it gave me this message:

    Code:
The creation of a shadow copy has timed out.
    error 0x81000101
Is this due to only having 70GB free on the backup drive?

EDIT: System restore seems to have gotten working, I tried again and right now it's at the "Please wait while your Windows files and settings are being restored" stage. Taking a while, though XD

    Right. Good news!
I used by backup drive to do a system restore to 25/10/2014. This solved by adapter problem, and everything works fine. However, I had to once more remove all the Oculus software and drivers before it would restart successfully. Not good news if I want to continue using my Rift :,(
So, it restarts properly, everything works well (I played Minecraft yesterday - so that works XD). I think we have a problem solved!

Thanks Golden and Essenbe for helping me out here, I am really, really appreciative. Hope I have to never come back! (lol). I would definitely recommend this forum to any friend that had problems.
