    BSOD on laptop while browsing

    Hello All,

So I got a BSOD on my laptop while browsing. This is like the 3rd time this has happened so I'm trying to figure out what's causing it.

What happens is, while browsing or randomly the laptop will start to move very slowly - events taking a while to occur like clicking on start takes a while for it to appear, the HDD light will be blinking constantly and then it will Blue Screen.

Any help pointing out the problematic area will be appreciated.

Laptop Model : Dell Inspiron 14R N4010 (not the specs I have listed in my info)

    Regards

The reported issue is storage failure.
    Code:
    ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000185 - The I/O device reported an I/O error.

DISK_HARDWARE_ERROR: There was error with disk hardware
Test the HDD using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows. Take both the short test and the extended test.

    Uninstall Ashampoo HDD Control.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall the program at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

    • Double click to open it.
    • Click this button only:
    • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
    3. Select the “Startup” tab.
    4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus, RocketDock and the touchpad driver, SynTPEnh.
    5. Apply > OK
    6. Accept then restart.

Update the driver to Name DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card from Support | Dell US

    Let us know the results.

    Hello,

So, I uninstalled Ashampoo HDD Control , Removed Daemon Tools, Ran the installer the uninstall was greyed out, did the MSCONFIG and selected the correct programs to run.

The only problem is when I run the test it kept failing, I attached the screenshot. Does it mean my HDD is failing?

    Yes. Unfortunate but yes.

If it is within warranty, ask for a replacement. Otherwise back p your data and get a new one.

I'm thinking of getting a SSD as their price has been reduced, any recommendations for one compatible with my 14R?

Any SSD will fit and suit there. But get one that is a brand of repute and having the possibility of regular firmware updates.

Intel, Samsung, OCZ, Corsair, Adata, these are known good brands.
