Windows 7: Intel burn test is the only thing crashing my PC

Sorry about the delay, been busy with work and the holiday... This is my second time typing this response (first one got deleted when I hit mark as solved) and I have to go back to work in 10 mins. So I think I've reached stability at 4.2 with 1.365 on the core. Still unsure why I got the black screen with everything at stock, but my games seem to be running a lot smoother now. Before, I had really long load times, sometimes not loading at all and general choppiness.. which is what cause me to believe there was a stability issue. Still unsure why I crashed at stock 3.3 with auto-voltage.. but it seems to be under control.

If I have issues again at 4.2ghz, I'm going to upgrade to i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz, MSI X99S SLI Plus LGA 2011-v3, and Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 for just under $800. I'd get a cheap $20-30 case and $80 750w PSU, sell the 2500k rig in the new case with stock cooler, a spare 500GB hdd, my old 7850, spare antec case fans and current 600w PSU for ~$500, bringing my upgrade cost to around $400.

Thanks again for all your help!

Whatever you like is fine with me. But one piece of advice. You're cheaping out on the PSU which is the heart of any system and can take a whole system out with it. Cheap out somewhere else and get a quality PSU, which don't come cheap. Get a Seasonic X or Platinum series or Corsair HX or preferably AX model. XFX is a good brand too. They are mostly made by Seasonic.

So you'd say no to this one on a new 2011-v3 setup? Amazon.com: Corsair CX Series 750 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Bronze ATX12V/EPS12V 744 Power Supply CX750M: Computers & Accessories

I currently have a CX600 non modular, it's about 2 months old.

It's probably OK and gets good ratings. But, that's the thing about the ratings you read. If you buy it and put it in and the computer starts, it gets 5 stars. I want to read the ratings after they have used it for 3 years. But, seriously, it's probably good enough. The AX is their best and the HX are their next to best, I think. I have both. The one you chose will probably be OK. I would get one of the other 2, if it were me.

Update: Can't crash my computer if I try at 4.6ghz @ 1.375v (+.065 offset). I decided to hold back too long on the 2011 v3 setup and everything went off sale, but I upgraded my PSU and my case
I went with your advice and shot for an HX at $100 after the rebate. Got the case for the same price.
I may just get another GTX 970 and SLI it soon, as my CPU no longer poses a bottlenecking issue. I got the larger case for a few reasons, such as space. I couldn't fit another GTX 970 in the P182, despite how huge it is. Also, with any future upgrades, my H80i won't be in the way of the DDR4 sticks to the left of the CPU... assuming my H80i is compatible with skylake sockets, or whatever I end up upgrading to. The window and lights are pretty sweet, a nice change from the boring gunmetal black panels. Oh, and having unbroken case USB ports would be awesome. I've had the P182 since it came out, when I installed by brand new Q6600 in it. 2 months into my ownership, I accidentally kicked a flash drive plugged into the front and destroyed both ports. I live <5 miles from newegg's warehouse, so I'll probably get them with will-call tomorrow. Sorry for the rambling, just excited for upgrades!

Great choice of parts. It sounds like you have a beast of a rig. CONGRATULATIONS. Check back in with me occasionally and let me know how things are going. I am toying with building a 2011-3 rig myself. My only problem is I love my 3770K and my Motherboard. I can run Prime95 all day long at 5 GHz, @ 1.25V. I love that and will never have another rig like it. I know it is not as good as your rig, but I still like it. I just know for an enthusiast like me, it is pretty old now. If I get anything it will be a 2011-3 rig like yours or wait and see what Sky lake is like. So, I would like to know long term how you are getting along with your rig. Congratulations on the beast of a rig you have built. Job very well done.

Same issue, mines unsolved

To make the issue short and sweet, I am having the same issue. My computer keeps restarting (randomly) when I am playing low grade games. I have been trying to solve this problem for months. I RMA'ed my Power supply (because after restart, I am getting Kernel event 41) I figured it was a power issue. I am using an EVGA 1300 Supernova 80+ Gold standard PSU. I also bought a new video card to follow, thinking it could be video ( IE. Only happens when gaming). The issue continued to persist. I thought it may be damage in the motherboard, the motherboard was RMA'ed (these parts had warranty on them from newegg). The new board came in, with the same problem. I also ran Memtext x86 for almost 12 hours, I received all passes. Moving along... I decided to try a GPU Benchmark, I ran Furmark, 0 problems at all with heating. Leading me to....intelburnin test / prime 95. Both were run ( not at the same time) and my PC IMMEDIATELY replicated the problem. The processor I am using is an Intel Core i7 3960X Sandy Bridge-E with a Coolermaster v8 series processor fan. I am in desperate need of help seeing as I can not stabilize my custom PC. I hope this thread is not too old and I can find a responder.

In the farthest recesses of my memory, I recall spontaneous and unexplained rebooting as a bug within Asus motherboards.

This dates back 3 or 4 years.

I didn't pay much attention to it as I have not had an Asus product for quite some time.

I can't recall how it was resolved--possibly a new BIOS or possibly just keep RMAing until you get lucky.

Pound on Google.

You, sir. Are a magical genius. I don't know why I didn't think of updating BIOS. I updated BIOS. Manually Set my Vcore where it should be... and viola. Full passing in intel burnin and Prime. I love you, so very much.

lol this Zombie thread got resurrected!? I ended up getting a 4790k and ASUS Z97-AR and have had ZERO issues with it so far. I sold the 2500k and ASROCK Extreme3 Gen3 for $200.. and paid $360 for the new hardware. Basically spent $160 for a spectacular upgrade. At first I didn't even notice any changes from the 2500k.. but there's definitely a noticeable difference with video encoding and CPU dependent games like GTA V. I never updated the BIOS on the ASROCK.. but I'll suggest for my friend that I sold it to to update it. Cheers mates.
