Windows 7 64bit RTM killed my computer

Hey Folks,

I had Windows 7 RC 32bit installed since day 1 that it was released. Everything worked perfectly fine. I got my Copy of Win7 Home Premium in the mail and decided to do a clean install. My Processor was 64bit compatible so I decided to install the 64bit instead of 32bit (as i planned on upgrading and adding memory). Everything went by perfectly on the install. The computer seemed to run fine for about 2 days and then the issues started.

I hadn't reinstalled much of anything except iTunes, Firefox, and Trillian back onto the computer after the clean install. First time I noticed something wrong was when I was listening to music in iTunes. The music kept freezing every 4 or 5 secs (but only freezing for a sec). I shut down iTunes and started it back up but didn't fix the issue. So I rebooted the computer and everything seemed normal again.

Couple hours later after the reboot, it started to do it again. But this time, I noticed that when the music was freezing, so was everything else. My mouse would freeze in place, loading icons would, scrolling would. It was every 4 or 5 secs like clockwork. Nothing but rebooting would fix it. I researched the issue and found nothing. So I decided maybe my computer wasn't so 64 bit compatible and was just going to reinstall again with the 32bit version. I had to go to work so I was going to do it when I came home....

Well, I came home to find both my monitors hooked up to it were on standby and I couldn't get them to come on. So I had to hard boot the comp. After doing this, the computer booted up normally, and then 10 min after the monitors shut off again and the computer would hard boot by using the power button. I had to turn off the power supply. So I decided to just boot from dick and reinstall...the re installation can't make it to 40% before the monitor (only one hooked up now) shuts off. And now my computer will only boots up to the System Repair and I don't know what to do.

As a suggestion, make sure the BIOS is up to date, nothing is overclocked, and the machine is adequately cooled.

After that, lockups or crashes during the OS install phase can be reliably attributed to a problem at the hardware level. If the hardware is bad, the link to the Win7 install was either coincidental, or the extra workload exposed the hardware defect. There's no way for the OS install to be the causal factor - it can't physically damage the hardware.
