Try just using the computer with only the SSD attached and see if it runs OK and if you get any BSODs.

You are right. In fact I had some difficulties at the beginning with the SSD, so I made it possible to boot on the WD, and that is the reason that there is partition E and in F two directories from 2013 program files and program.
In fact I have the impression that there were not used since october 2013 when the SSD began to work. The experiment you suggested by disconnecting the WD disk seems to prove that the Dell PC boots only from disk C:
But I understand that there is still some doubts about interference.
However last year I felt more comfortable to know that I could boot also from the WD disk.
Another question is : should I go for the AHCI mode (and how )?
And should I do something about OS optimisation ?

jeanpierregeorg, Quite frankly, if it were mine I would do a clean install and reinstall everything so that the SSD was completely independent of the Western Digital. You will get much better performance that way and you are taking a big risk with running a system on 2 hard drives. I can help you do that if you want, and yes you should be in AHCI. I think you see the Samsung Magician recommends that as does every SSD I am aware of, and I own about 13 SSDs. Just let me know if you want to do that. A clean install is not that bad if you plan for it and know what you are going to need.

There is a way to change to AHCI mode. The first thing I would try is to install the Intel Rapid Storage Driver (IRST) from the Dell web site for your computer. just make sure you don't download the Intel rapid start driver. The Intel rapid Storage Driver contains the Intel AHCI driver. I believe you should be able to change to AHCI in BIOS and boot into Windows, but don't worry if you can't. Just change it back and it will boot fine. This is another way to do it. AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista

1)I wanted to manually create a restore point, before any strong move, but it seems that disk F: is protected and not disk C: (system) that seems very strange and unusual. Should it be C: protected and F: unprotected ? and how to change ?
2) Should I do the clean install before AHCI or can I do first the change to AHCI mode ?

jeanpierregeorg, I'll answer your questions as well as I can, but I may not be quite correct. As far as I am aware, Windows will only count one disk as the system disk. In your case it appears that the F drive is considered by the system as the Ststem Disk and is marked as active and the SSD is marked as inactive (if I read French correctly)

If you are going to do a clean install, I would change it to AHCI at that time, but it will not hurt to do it now. Honestly, it is fairly simple and the instructions are pretty step by step. As long as you change just those values and do nothing else, it should be just fine. If you are going to do a clean install, you can also just leave it as it is, but, If you have an external hard drive, I would copy everything you need to keep from the Western digital to the external hard drive.

What is strange is that C: is correctly seen as system drive but is not protected. I would like to protect C:

Sorry I should try to change the language in my windows 7; what the file says is that protection for Disk F: is ON and protection for Disk CSystem) is OFF (desactivee) This seems absurd to me.

New disks protection

I just changed the protections, now it should be ON for C: , I left it on ON for F: , may be this is not efficient ?
I also did not know to choose the space for saving C:
By the way, the save of C: is it written on C: or elsewhere ?

I just created manually a restoration point called "BeforeAHCI" but it protects C and F and probably that is not great ; I do not understand what is saved in F: which is not supposed to be a system disk. Where do I find the saved files ?
Probably I should un- protect F: and only protect C: then create a restoration point. If I do that, it is more correct certainly, but I shall lose all the previous restoration files ?
