    W7/64 Freeze Issues.

Ok, wow glad I found this place.
Clean install with format. Ultimate edition.constant freezes which force a manual restart of the system.
I have gotten these freezes with Firefox and IE AND Chrome..so its not JUST one of those.
I thought maybe it was NOD32 so i removed and installed MSE.
Turned off Auto Backup feature in WHS/HP model.
I only had Lightroom and Itunes installed as programs.
But funny after reading threads here, my problem also happens when doing any sort of multi tasking esp if any sort of "backup" is running..doesnt matter what companies program is doing the backup..W7 or Acronis.
Im actually ready to go back to Vista 64 as I never had ANY of these problems.
I also get USB errors even though i never had them before..
Here is my system specs. Also i did upgrade the MB chipset.
    ntel Q9550
    Asus P5EVM-HDMI
    EVGA 8800GT
    8 gb Corsair ddr2/800 ram
WD 320 HDx2 one is Photoshop scratch disk
    WD 1terabyte drive for storage
    W7 64 bit
    Antec 850 PS
    Antec P182 case
    Apple 30 inch.

Any ideas?..hmmm just read of others having problems with Nvidia drivers..which i am using.
    thanks

Ideally, a "clean" install done for testing purposes would not contain other apps/drivers/games which don't come on the Windows disc. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to discern whether Windows itself is hanging, or whether it may be caused by one of those components added post-install.

Does the symptom occur in safe mode?

Well this wasnt a clean install for testing...I did a clean install and put my programs on the rig as usual. I was listing what was on the pc thats all.

So i reinstalled the OS..which was the strangest experience in itself...and got everything running.

I downgraded my Nvidia drivers to an older set..since there is talk on the web of problems with the new drivers and W7..maybe.

Installed Itunes..though there are plenty of threads about problems with W7 and itunes..I dont feel its the culprit. I was even able to connect my Itouch and update ect..no problems.

BUT...the moment i try installing TrueImage..i got a crash to a blue screen that was gathering information.(sorry its a first for me and i have no idea what the name of that screen is) and then a restart of the rig and back to windows. I was able to finally install Trueimage but by then it was late and i havent played around to see if its going to crash again.

    Thats where I am at.

    A couple of quick things...

The nVidia drivers that are installed through Windows Update are a bit of an issue yes, but I wouldn't recommend downgrading to older drivers. If anything, you should be using the latest drivers available direct from their website or their current beta drivers also available from their website.

Only after trying both of those should you downgrade to something older. The reason is, different hardware configurations could cause different issues. You shouldn't automatically assume that because someone else (or even several someone elses) is having an issue with drivers, you will too. Always test on your own hardware first :)

All that aside, if you're getting a blue screen try posting the information you're seeing on that blue screen. That might point us in the right direction to find a solution to your problem.

I downgraded my drivers because when i had the newer drivers installed i was having the constant freezing...so, AFTER reading about the problems I downgraded to see if that helped...
Where do i find the information on my pc that shows what the last crash was about so i can post it?
    thanks

    1. Click on Start
    2. Click on Computer
    3. Across the top bar where it says "Organize" you see an option for "System Properties". Click on that.
    4. On the left hand side there will be an option for "Advanced System Settings". Click that.
    5. A window will pop up. It will already be under the correct tab. Look for "Startup and Recovery" and click the Settings button.
    6. Under "System Failure" make sure "Automatically Restart" is unchecked (This will force the blue screen rather than just restart.
    7. Make sure "Write an event to system log" is checked.
    8. Click OK. Click Apply. And close all other windows.

After this is done you'll be able to actually see the blue screen when it happens. Although the entire blue screen is unnecessary, there are parts that are very helpful. If you need to know which parts just ask :)

Because you're forgetting to put double quotes around the entire path :)

CD "\Program files\Debugging Tools for Windows"

In the absence of quotes, every space character is interpreted as the start of another token.

    Yes. More info:

It's entirely possible, and even statistically probable, that the crash you experienced recently has little or nothing to do with the ongoing lockups. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be investigated of course.

    well just an update here...
After yet again doing a clean format and reinstalling so far I have a solid system. I also downgraded my video drivers to an older set, and installed MSE instead of Nod32.
I am running Lightroom with no problems now and spent all day yesterday playing DragonAge and TourchLight with no problems. Also WHS backups are running fine. The only slight hiccup was installing Acronis True Image, which at first was giving me a flaky install, but i fixed that and ran the program making boot disk and doing backups with no problems.
I cant really say what the difference is with this install over the last one but whatever it is it is working.
    thanks.
