Just keep us informed and use that pen and paper and keep notes. They can come in very handy at times.

Sounds about right to me, if you are talking about making an image. I think that would be good as he would never have to do a clean install again.

Yes a image is what I'm talking about. Do you recommend another program to use to make a image?

I'm thinking their was more than one problem covering up another problem.

If every thing goes well adding the printer and stay the hell away X-Box until last.

Cutting down that list in post # 125 should be a challenge.

Macrium is probably the best, but I use Macrium and Paragon, simply because I never trust just 1 program.

The interesting thing about the X-box is I've used it as a windows 7 media center extender for years with no problems--I sure hope it's not an issue as that's a big part of how I record and watch TV--HDHomerun grabs the feed from antenna, and media center records to external hard drive, which I then watch on TV via xbox 360 extender. Anyway, we'll take it one step at a time as discussed before, and I will be documenting carefully each step.

OK, it's now been 3 days since the clean install. No BSOD. Windows is fully up to date.

The following are installed in this order:

1) Intel LAN driver
2) ASUS bluetooth 4.0 wifi driver
3) MSE
4) Chrome w/ adblock
5) Intel chipset driver
6) Intel USB 3.0 extensible host controller driver
7) Real Temp (not really installed I guess--it just runs from a folder)
8) Malwarebytes Anti-malware free (scan shows no malicious items found)
9) Samsung Magician--firmware current, drive health good

Unless you tell me otherwise, my plan for tonight is to make a system image with Macrium, and then plug into the router. I would like to install video driver and audio driver after that but may wait a day or two. I think it makes sense to use the WHQL driver for video since I've not tried that. Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. Always use the WHQL drivers.

FYI, I discovered tonight that the DVD-RW drive I had plugged in would not burn an ISO. This is the same drive I installed the windows disc from. Hope that didn't somehow give me a corrupt windows install. Anyway, I plugged in my second DVD-RW and was able to burn the Macrium recovery ISO no problem. Well, onward and upward.

One thing I'm not clear on is how do I know if a driver is WHQL? For example, are the latest, non-beta AMD and Realtek drivers WHQL?

It should say so on the driver download page.
