Ok, you can look at the kb numbers by the failed updates and see if they installed later. Usually if an update fails, it will be run again. With your update setting, you need to manually install the updates.

you know your stuff :) just didn't know if the update failures might of been a clue as to the issue.
I have ran the eset online scanner and its come back no threats found, also ran tdsskiller and that was also clear. I installed an older NVidia gpu driver the other day version 332.21 where I was running 340.52 so will see if this helps over the next few days, if no bsod then i'll update to latest driver to see if this could be an issue, my card (evga gtx780ti classified) has a switch for two bios settings, I have kept it on the standard setting as I emailed evga to see if there was a 2nd bios to install for the card but the reply said what issues am I having with the card and a search on their site doesn't show any updated/alternative bios. which in theory makes the switch pointless
I believe you will find the bioses different. Unless you are overclocked, which you should not be, it won't matter. The LN2 bios raises the power limit slightly and a few other things. But, you should not be overclocked right now and the regular bios is where you should be. I have a 780 Classy and a 980 classy. So, I know a little about them.
lol no its all standard clocks, no point in messing if the basics aren't right
Just dropping by to share a little information.
If you do a Windows 7 Update using 332.21 Windows Updates will probable show a update to 340.52 available.
The reason I state this is because I have a nVidia 460 and a 770 on two computers and both computers showed the same driver update. Both computers are using the 340.52 with no problems at this time.
Sometimes it takes a few times checking for updates before you get the driver update recommendation.
I wouldn't recommend installing the update until you check with Steve.
