Have a look in Device Manager. Are there any yellow exclamation marks next to the USB entries?

I don't have the option of changing the boot mode from AHCI AHCI is the only thing that is listed for SATA operation/ but in using the windows tool, the hard drive passes. don't know if I can run the DOS tool on it or not.

I was able to narrow part of the problem due to drivers. that last bluescreen that I uploaded for you guys I did a search on what was on the bugcheck where it came up as ntkrnlmp.exe being the possible cause of the problem. I did a search on that file and the results I came up with were that that file only comes up when there is a problem with drivers in the system. I ran verifier again just checking the drivers that had nothing to do with vmware player at the time and nothing came up like it did before when it was rebooted. so far, no other major problems have come up. if it comes up again, I might be able to see a better diagnostics of it. but with both memory ahd hard drive tests passing, I didn't see that there was much else there. so I basicaly came to the ending conclusion of either a corrupted driver somewhere or power surges happening.
