Boot BSODing W7HP machine stops on c000021a

Hello.

I am currently trying to resurrect an HP W7HP laptop. It will not boot to the login prompt and blue screens with the following details:
STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error)
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x000000 (0xc0000001, 0x00010708).
The system has been shut down.

I have tried the following:
Startup Repair (found no problems).
Registry restored from backup (no change)
Last Known Good confi (no change, same BSOD)
SFC (error: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation)
System Restore (4 RPs available, all report as "You must enable System Protection on this drive")

I am now at a bit of a loss as to where to go next with this. Is it possible to enable the system protection in order to utilise one of the Restore Points? Or should I look somewhere else?

I haven't included a diagnostic report as I cannot get in to a full Windows session in order to run the diagnostic tools.

Any ideas welcomed.

Hello and welcome twaddledum now this is an interesting article because it lists a few options and I ma not sure if any will work as you seem to have tried all the obvious ones but have a look and could you please give us the specs of the machine too as it makes helping out that much easier.

Ok mate sorry for late reply buit have been fairly busy since I first posted - now if it is a clean install you want and I think that it is probably going to be the best thing to do and use this Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
but you will need an activation code for the ISO you can download from the Heidoc site.

The DVD you have if it is an OEM edition - already used then you cannot install that version onto another machine unless the motherboard or machine has died and then usually a phone call to Microsoft to explain what has happened to the machine or motherboard - I have found that they are more than helpful in letting you use that OEM again - if on the other hand it is a full retail version then you can use it again but you must get rid of it on any other machine it has been run on. Now this can be done for a few times with the retail version but it will draw attention to yourself from Microsoft if you do this say more than three times.

So in summary if you have an OEM DVD you will have to ask Microsoft if you can use it again if the machine it was used on originally is broken because that code is tied to the original motherboard.

If it is a retail version then make sure you take it off any machine it is being used on first.

Whatever happens and you are allowed to use that activation code again then do so but use the ISO from Greg's tutorial because it will be right up to date and you will find the updates are not so full on. You will of course have updates but not so many.

PS sorry should have said too that if you do this then make sure you prepare the hard drive first - I usually wipe or clean all with mine.

Boot from the Windows 7Pro DVD as if you were performing an install. At the languages screen, press SHIFT+F10 - a command window will open.

At the command prompt, type the following and hit enter:
